Hi Adam, I too was looking at that one as well, I had asked a couple of questions, seems to be a great deal. I've been debateing over it in my mind, I currently have a big block 93 Evinrude Looper 120 which runs pretty solid on my Pulse 170. It would be nice to throw a 150 on it to see what increases in speed I could get.
What bothers me though, by the time I pay for the extra's, like the tax to bring it back across the border to Canada, a new control box, new oil tank, I'd be around the $3000.00 Canadian mark, that is, assuming that the final price is around the $2000.00 US mark. I may only gain a few more mph, I'd be better off to sell mine and add that money towards, lets say a 21 footer.
As you say, it's a really good deal, even if the bidding goes a little higher, Fresh water to Boot.
Take Care

he's not too far from me, but the compression numbers he's quoting tells me why he's selling that motor. It's tired!
It's 10 psi below what a normal engine is supposed to be at. That motor needs freshening.
The XR2 that I sold this summer was several years older, and still had 122-125 PSI all around.

Hi Jw, the other thing that was odd was 55 mph at 5300 rpm. I would of thought it would of been a little higher, even though it was a 18 foot fishing boat. As you say, that's probably why he upgraded himself, no control box, no oil tank !!

hey jw,
thats good to know about the compression numbers. I thought as long as they were all the same that it was good. Thanks for the tip.
Sounds like the guy needed a jack plate to get the rpms up.
Motor sold for $1775.
Even IS good, that means 'normal' wear. But when I see an engine get below 120, then I know it's getting 'worn' and is losing horsepower. So a 150 at 115 psi isnt really a 150 anymore.................

Hi JW, I was thinking the same as Adam with respect to Compression numbers, that's why this Board is Second to None, with folks like yourself sharing information such as that, it makes us all just that much more knowledgeble.
Thanks

I just paid 2.200 for a 1988 135 black max. Compression is an even 135 on all 6 holes. Hope it's going to be a good investment http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif You never know http://checkmate-boats.com/graemlins/irked.gif
