MY 1986 ENTICER IS RATED FOR A MAX OF 125 HP. I WANT TO INSTALL AN IN-LINE 150 HP IN PLACE OF THE IN-LINE 90 HP IT CAME WITH. WILL THIS BE OK OR IS IT JUST TO HARD ON TRANSOM. I UNDERSTAND THE CONDITION OF THE BOAT IS INPORTANT AND NO 2 BOATS ARE THE SAME. MY TRANSOM LOOKS TO BE IN REALLY GOOD SHAPE AND I JUST INSTALLED NEW STRINGER AND FLOOR OVER THE WINTER. WILL IT HOLD UP TO THE 150 ??

I don't think the problem will be the boat. Its the insurance that is the problem.

You won't have any trouble with the L6 150, it's the same motor as the 90. It is just carbed bigger. They both weigh around 300 lbs. They are pretty hard on the gas and not as strong as a V6 though. A L4 125 Merc will make that hull fly and will give you better fuel economy and no hassles with insurance. I have a 130 Yamaha on mine and I'm pushing 60mph.(Diplomat: rated for 140, however my insurance company said they were okay with up to 10hp over if I wanted.)

My first C'mate was a 15' V-mate-1 and rated for a 100hp... it ran great with a Merc 140 inline 6 (with 90hp stickers of course)! http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif
