I have a few questions for anyone who may be able to help- I am seeing moisture in my electric water temp guage- any ideas on how or why this is happening? Like I mentioned it is an electrical guage!

also exhaust flappers for the thru hull- The rubber ones on there now seem to be worn, they are about an 1/2 inch away when the motor is off- is that normal? or do they need replaced?

moisture in gauges is quite common, seen it new boats and old. its just a little condensation.

your second question about the flappers, 1/2" away from what?

your flappers are probably ok.. there function is to stop back wash up from behind the boat.. not to stop water from comming in sitting still.. as far as your guages go.. << i see alot of that.. try drying it out w/ a light bulb under the dash.. (just overnight) .. and see what happens.. its the same as your windshield on your car fogging up..

I appreciate the information- especially on the flaps, As far as the tem guage one day it was actually dripping water?? I found that especiaaly strange- I could not locate a source of the water either above or around the guage- it wasn't raining and we were just cruising along- hadn't been in the water(swimming or skiing) Any thoughts??

Looks like you need a new guage. It must have lost its seal.

well I found the problem today- Was boating on Lake Ontario today and found that while cruising at around 45 mph there was water dripping on my foot- so I stopped and crawled under the dash- there was water on the back of the temp guage, but nowhere else... I had my buddy drive the boat up to cruising spped and noticed a little drip coming from the speedometer which is right above the temp guage- put a new clamp on it and viola no more trouble!! i didn't realize water actually went into the speedometer! Anyway everything is wonderful again!!- Except the coil is laeking oil- guess I better replace that soon!! thanks all for the help!! http://checkmate-boats.com/graemlins/beer1.gif

Actually its air pressure that works your Speedometer. If your coil is leaking, change it ASAP!Have a good one

I thought it was air-- so it is just moisture in the line that was dripping on my foot (there was quite a drip) I crimped it with a zip tie and it is no longer dripping, but is there a problem pending with the speedometer if water is picking up in the line- or maybe water was getting in there by vaccuum or siphon with the line being open???

Thanks for the reply and any help or opinion is always welcome!! http://checkmate-boats.com/graemlins/beer1.gif

That line runs to the back. When hooked up correctly the water pressure from your pickup( Usually mounted on the lower right of the rear of your boat) will compress the air in the line which moves a diaphram and makes your speedo needle move. When the line is not hooked up it will squirt water out as fast as you go!
