I NEED TO CHANGE THE TRIM SENDING UNITS ON MY OUTDRIVE. MY QUESTION ,IS DOES THE DRIVE NEED TO BE PULLED OR CAN IT BE DONE WITHOUT PULLING?

I assume you're talking merc here. Drive has to come off (much easier to work with drive off). It's been awhile but there are 2 methods - fast and proper. The fast method involves splicing into the existing wires and installing the new senders. Wires must be soldered and waterproof wrapping must be used. The other method involves fishing the wires back up and into the boat to there respective connections - no cutting or spliceing. You will probably break at least one screw trying to get them off. Trim limit kicks in about 1" of ram travel (this will depend somewhat on the negative trim of the transom). You don't want too much travel or you will start ventilating the prop. Trim sender will also need to be set which is a 2 person job - one to read the gauge. While not an overly difficult job, it is a bit of pain in the butt. While you're at it, check the following: bellows, gimbel bearing, u-joints, shift cable and water hose. Also check gimbel ring for slop. Part number for trim sender kit is 805320a1 and includes both senders, the screw part number is 10-37978.

CHRIS, THANKS FOR THE INFO. ANY GOOD SUGGESTIONS ON GETTING THE BROKEN SCREWS OUT http://checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/brickwall.gif

Try using a bolt extractor or drilling and retapping the threads - fun, fun, fun
