I am also interested in that boat. A rep from Checkmate emailed me, high 60's with 320hp, mid 60's with 300hp.

I'm getting close to making a purchase on a new checkmate. Was interested in this particular question myself.. anyone have a ZT218 with either the 350 mag or 6.2.. was hoping for at least 67-70 on the GPS with the 6.2?

You're definitely not going to be in the 70s with the 6.2 - low 60s most likely, outside chance of getting to 65 fully dialed in, 3 blade labbed prop, etc. Checkmate typically quotes in speedo speeds, not gps.

i have a 2005 ZT 218 BR with a 350 MPI and never put it in the water, but i was told it would do 72 gps. we will see this spring!

THanks, seems to be a pretty wide range of estimates that people have mentioned out there with respect to the top speed on the ZT218. JY, based on other feedback I've received I think you're closer to the truth, but would love to hear your experience, Dave Y. Congrats on the new boat!

A ZT 230 runs 58 gps with the 350 and 61 gps with the 6.2. The old 234 Persuader (still available, I'm sure)can run up to 65 gps with the 6.2 and was considered by at least two long-time Mate dealers to be one of Checkmate's most efficient hulls. The 234 hull has a narrower beam that the ZT230, and is no doubt somewhat lighter. The ZT218 is obviously a smaller boat than the ZT230, and probably lighter - but to pick up 10 mph is, in my opinion, a huge stretch. I've never seen any 22 footish v-hull sterndrive boat tested with a small-block at more than 65 mph, gps. The only way to know for sure is to ride in one with your hand-held, or trust someone who'll give you the straight goods - beautiful boat, no matter how fast she goes! Dave Y is a dealer, but he'll give the true results, I'm sure.
