Looks like I may have talked a Starliner owner on this board into selling me his Starliner. I'm scheduled to go pick it up Monday or Tuesday :-)
I'll let everyone know next week if all goes well...Yahoooooooooo!!!
Next stop Checkmate Regatta in Ohio :-D

Make sure you have it checked over before you buy. Boats are great when they're runnin' and are nothing but a pain when they're not.
I hope it turns out to be what you've been searchin' for. http://www.checkmate-boats.com/graemlins/thumb.gif

What should I look for or check? I will be taking one of those push in type of compression guages, and I will be checking for soft spots and damage to the hull, but If there are other things I can check easily in his driveway while running it on the hose please let me know. Here's a link to when it sold to the the current owner:

It seems both previous owners were S&F members as well as Checkmate-Boats members (c durell & CheckmateOhio)
It has a different motor then shows in the pics. It now has a Jonny 175 that he put 260 heads on, velocity stacks, jet work on the carb, boyesen reeds, so suppose to have a bit more power. He mentioned he probably wanted $5500 if he sold so I offered him a little more to encourage him to sell sooner ;-) I hope it all checks out ok. Does this sound like an ok deal for a hard to find boat?

Well on the boat the main worry is rot. So you need to check it out pretty good to make sure you don't end up finding out later you need to rip out a floor, transom, stringers etc. to make repairs.
The other issue is the motor, so a compression test is a good start. A leakdown test and a good inspection by a qualified marine mechanic would be better.
I know you've been searching around for one of these for a bit, and it's human nature to make a spur of the moment purchase after finally finding one. I've done things like that myself and ended up being sorry later.
Hopefully it's exactly what you've been looking for, but I would get someone who's unbiased to have a looksee and confirm it is before I turned over my hard earned cash. http://www.checkmate-boats.com/graemlins/thumb.gif

Man he really wants a Starliner...lol! I'll keep my boat.
The pics look like the gelcoat is not oxidized which means the thing didn't sit out in the elements. That's what ruins these boats. If they sit out in the rain the moisture works its way into the floor and gets trapped in the foam and rots from the inside out. Check the floor very carefully for soft spots. Pull the odd screw out of floor and see if it was sealed and dry or if it is wet and rotting. Check the transom for cracks. Spider cracks are normal for a hull that age. Structural cracks are serious. Floor or transom replacement is a lot of trouble. If all checks out I think its a good buy.

Yeah I guess I got it bad for a Starliner, sorry. Also sorry for all the posts about wanting a Starliner, but If you think I'm bad now wait till I actually get one. The posts will start flying here and over at Scream & Fly. Keep your fingers crossed it all works out for me. I looked at the boat a week ago when I was out there in Ohio, but not real close since he wasn't sure he wanted to sell. Now I have to do a good bit more checking.
Anyone live near the east central Ohio area. near Akron and willing to meet me Monday to help me decide if this is a good buy?
