I was told that Synthetic 2 cycle oil needs to be mixed at 32 to 1 rather than 50 to 1. Is that correct ???

The opposite is true of synthetic oils (in general). 100% synthetic outboard oils can be mixed at a HIGHER ratio. But, to be safe, I always still mix Syn oil at 50:1 instead of the 100:1 that they claim.
It also depends on rpms. If you're spinning an outboard to 7000+ rpms, you better be mixing any oil at 32:1.

Thanks JW, Do you suggest one brand over another.
No, I don't. I've been using the Pennzoil Marine 100% synthetic because I can pick it up at my local Menards or Wall Mart for about $20 a gallon. The standard Merc or Envinrude oil is about that price, so I figure I'm protecting the engine a little by spending the same $$ on 100% syn oil versus dinosaur oil.
I don't run my engines over 6,000 rpms (since I sold the Promax) so the regular oil would protect me fine for thousands of hours. The ONLY reason I get the Pennzoil Syn is the price being the same as the standard oil.

I think I heard somewhere that penzoil has ash. in it. quicksilver, merc, yamalube, suzi, and,J/E are an ashless oil. carbon(Ash) build up is the supposed problem that the penzoils and valvolines have(greater than the manufacturers oils anyway. Plus Merc and yamaha do have additives to keep corrosion down.
I"M a quicksilver guy myself I stick to whats been good for me
I"M also a synthetic fan. Mobil 1

The Pennzoil 100% syn is actually someone elses forumala they Pen bought so they'd have a marine grade syn oil to sell. Jay Smith (engine builder on Scream and Fly) swears by it, and he claims less ash from the Pen. But everyone has their own opinion.
For instance, I'd NEVER run Pennzoil car oil, as it's a parrafin based oil and will clog up an engines small passages over time, even with 3,000 mile oil changes.

yes lots of guys on s&f use penzoil, or that amsoil stuff, as for ratio's jay smith said 40:1 is fine for 7K and under RPM's I have mixed mine at 32:1 and all it does is cost more and foul out the plugs if you idle for too long, I think 50:1 is fine for 6K and under. shane
