I was looking on ebay for a cheap boat when I found a checkmate. I decided to do further research and came to this site. I noticed your posting and realized it was the same boat that I was looking at. I finally got it for 760 do you think I did alright? By the way small web isn't it. LOL

Welcome to the board. Post some details on the boat you bought. Sounds like a good deal.
I would love to post some pic but haven't figured out how. I have always been a Glastron lover owning a 77 calson with a 351/235hp I though it was fast at 52 mph. I think I will be in for a treat hoping to reach that 70 mark. I have also been told that with V hulls thay become unstable (hard to steer) much over 80 mph. Was that correct?
Looked like a good buy Joe,interior looked a little plain but it was new.Lots of parts out there for those motors.Good luck on your project.
I just got back from Southern Texas where it was a mad house over ran Oklahoma Fans. I was a little dissappointed when I saw my new project. Definately need a clear coat on top. Interior, and frozen motor is missing parts. I think I am going to give bad feed back for the seller. I am still hoping I am not upside down in the deal.

What was the final price Joe?
$1000 including gas, food, and lodging for the transportation of the boat back to Missouri.
Its a shame some e-bay sellers are not real good about accurate descriptions.I thought the interior was listed as fairly new in the boat, also motor was listed as having a bad cylinder not seized and missing parts.I have done a fair amount of business on e-bay and been lucky so far.I always understate condition of what I am selling. Always better to have a person happy that it was nicer than listed. Also will usually call person to get feel for them and ask questions on larger purchases.Where are located in MO. I live in Lansing,Ia. on Miss. River.

Well the reality is 1000 bucks doesn't buy much these days. I spend about a thousand bucks a year on storage and winter servicing. So overall you probably got a pretty good deal. And you'll always have a cool story to tell about how you purchased your mate. http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Still sounds like a good deal, I paid to much and still had to rebuild the powerhead and rebuild the the whole boat.

I have an '83 and I'd say it's definitely an Enchanter, given the size, the dash and the "lightning bolt" design behind the rear seat.

Could be a sister boat to mine, same colors. deffinantly an Enchanter, looks a little diferent with the stainless rails off It. Give it a good refinish and its pretty boat.I would recomend upgrading the engine rather than fixing that old Evenrude. You'll save money in the long run. What color is the interior.

yep, definately an enchanter, looks just like mine, different color. should be a good project!
hows the transom and floor?
also, if you can feel the flake in the metallic just sanding and buffing may not quite get it!!
will be a good ride, look for a 200 merc, with the right set up it should run 70s everyday!!

Well you will definatly have to sand the clear off no mater what you plan to do, just dont go to course on the sand paper and you might get lucky and be able to buff it out.My trimate was all chaulky and faded.I wet sanded it out and buffed it.Looks great :thumb:
Thanks for all the Feed back. I would love to put a 200 on the back but realize that my summer is going to be taken up with my wifes (our) pregnancy. I don't have the time to do all the work. Although I did wet sand the top
and know it will and can be brought back to life. The transom is solid along with the floor. I would say it needs interior, motor with controls including steering cable the guy i bought it from made it sound like he just took it out and locked up the motor. He didn't tell me he tyied to fix it and gave up on it while forgetting to put all the parts back on. Also the steering cable is so far gone I wondered when I got home it had to be in this condition at minimum a year. At this point I though I would list it on the website because I know how paticuliar Checkmatew owners are and thought someone might want to get a deal on it. If anyone one is serious feel free to contact me.

please put Checkmate in the subjecty line due to so many viruses I don't open and junkmail.
I would be interested in keeping If I knew I could Find a reliable motor for 2K but I think I am having high Hopes.

man, i dont know how i got here, but i know ill
be flying my 85 Enchanter, if thats what it is. All
I know is that Ive got a 21 chek, that ive been trying
to find out the brand(not that it matters}, but this is close
est yet. All that have taken a ride so far, called it the
SMILEMAKER. even if you were sad, it still pulled a smile on your face.
i can get to Tangeir Island, in the Chesapeake Bay, before
the airplane leaving Melfa airport, here on the ESVA. 14 miles,
12 minutes, add 3 minutes with no chop. I met a guy who can
take a 1980-90 Merk 200 and send all those ****. This man can
build a power head with his genious, and dare u 2 blow it. its a
black max grave yard, of warranty and non stop fun. Come to
DentonMD, and hear us, in June. Im planning my suicide for 2006,
with multiple jack plates, and hand-grenades, and TOOL playing
live.

It has been a long time since I logged on and posted. U should probably move this thread over to the "buy and sell". It is time. I don't really like outboards. The 1977 200 hp evinrude makes it fly. I really need to sell the thing. I had to put in new dual rack and pinion steering and with the new helm she is very responsive. The clear coat it totaly gone it is in the paint now everytime I sand, I see silver flake(the brown metallic once sanded produces this). But she has a beautyful body, new steering and and kicking motor along with seats. $2500 and someone can take it. The motor is probably worth 75% to 100% of that. I just got a good deal and need to get my money back out of it. With a 3 year old and a 20 month old I stay busy enough around the house. Took up gardening last year. Will take up boating again in the next couple of years when I can purchase a slip to go along with my next checkmate. If there are any serious offers meaning close to my rock botom asking price then feel free to call me. I am located in Springfield, MO (in middle of the country) SW Missouri. 417.840.3284

:) Hi Chris ... Really like the website. Jacob and I (Erica) bought the boat together (50/50). Joe lives about 1 mile from us. We had looked @ a VIP then saw this boat ... need I say more we got the enchanter. Have not had time to fully see all this site has to offer. We will take possesion of the boat after Memorial Day weekend when we get the last little amount money. We paid $1700. Not sure what kinda deal that is, but we felt it was not a great sum of money. Our only wish is that friends are on the lake when we need a tow back to shore LOL. It has a V6 200 hp Evinrude (rebuilt). Joe did go on about how he hates outboards. It has a new rack and pinion with dual cable. Joe told us that way if one should happen to snap you have a backup ... not that he knew this from experience LOL.

You look like an old pro @ the boating thing. I have been on the lake my whole life, and love to fish and swim, but have not been on a boat much. Last summer I decided it was time! I was tired of being green with envy.
Thus I rented a pontoon ... fun but not my style. Next came the deck boat ... loved trying to race people in it, was fast but not that fast. Then the Searay LOVED IT!! For the money I spent renting I could have had a boat. Well now I do and I don't care how much cash it zaps from me and how many times I will curse the day I ever bought it.When I fly by those people on shore my spirit will soar!
