A set of American Racing mags would go good on that... I have a set on my new 2002 Chevy Avalanche... While Chris get's my truck pics up, I'll post a pic of my rims...
Checkmates may not be the fastest boats on the water, but they are the nicest looking!
This rim is the American Racing one called "Slider" I got the 17' ones to go with the existing tires. I also have a Venture van with Eagle Alloy mags on it and I used to have a Surburban with American Racings on it as well. As you can tell, all my vehicles have to been my own with my own personal touch. Also, it was scary when I was reading Truck Trend and I saw the same truck as mine with the exact same mags on it. I guessed I had a good taste... http://www.checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/thumb.gif

They are hard to kill. I will have to get a picture of my buddies ramcharger. Down here in south GA the american pass time is fishing or mud bogging. So we built a bogger, runs in stock class. 440cid 7" of lift and 38.5 18's It's a hoss

Thanks Bill, yours looks great too! I got mine December of 2001 and it's been running fine ever since with nothing wrong with it... Here are the details...
2002 Chevy Avalanche
Z66 On-Road Package as I don't go off-road)
285 horsepower Vortec 5300 V8 engine, I could have got the 345 but I didnt anyways...
17' American Racing "Slider" rims...
Avalanche features the Convert-a-Cab system that lets you change it from a premium, 6-passenger SUV to a full-size pickup in less than a minute, without tools. And an innovative first-of-its-kind Midgate™ — positioned between the rear seats and pickup box — means you can configure Avalanche for maximum cargo room or maximum passenger space. It's the ultimate utility vehicle.
A message from the GM Canada Website. I love my truck... 2002 Motor Trend Truck of the Year...

Thanks Z I bought mine Oct of 2001 and it has been great although I only have 16,000 miles so far. I just discovered I have a bad right front shock already and GM won't replace it. I am ALWAYS looking for ways to upgrade her too!.
Why don't you just get a kit that lowers and heightens your truck on demand, with you at the controlls... Now that would be sweet... A good site for rims is the American Racing (http://www.americanracing.com)
Checkmates may not be the fastest boats on the water, but they are the nicest looking!

I had that on a show truck that I built once, and it is just not pratical for what I want to use the truck for and it stiffens up the ride because you have to keep pressure in the air bags when driving to minimize wear on the bags. American Racing has a poor selection for my application, I need 8-lug wheels. I have the wheels picked out, I am just working on the tires now.
2001 Chevy Silverado 4-door Extended Cab Short Box, Z71 OFF ROAD 4X4, 5.3 V8 with 3.73 Locker rear end. Auto 4X4, Towing Package, power everything. Black outside, Black inside, Blackwall tires http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif 27,000 miles, no mods to this truck.
2001 Toyota RAV4, 4X4, 2.0 4 cyl. with computer controlled variable valve timing, Towing package, locker rear end, moonroof, 4 wheel anti-locks, 23,000 miles. Use it for towing the rowboat/15 Honda....

I'll take some pics Monday as we hook up and head to the Milwaukee Boat Show..
2000 Ford F-350 Dually 4x4, standard cab, Lariat, Powerstroke Diesel..Orange and black two tone, tan leather. This truck is set up for our Hydraulic Trailer.. has already towed 30,000 pounds, about double the rating! 55,000 miles
1998 Dodge Ram 3500 4x4 quad cab Dually, Cummins Turbo Diesel, Auto (this auto has never given us problems, compared to the Dodge stories you hear) Alcoa rims, BFG Commercials, Black, grey Leather 122,000 miles and runs better than ever!
2000 Chevrolet Silverado, black and pewter, 4x4, grey interior, extened cab, 5.3 litre..
just turned 35,000 miles..
We just pulled a 185 back from Checkmate with my wives truck...
1999 Toyota Tacoma, standard cab 4x4, green.. best truck we've ever owned from a reliability standpoint.. this is the first truck I've owned that did not have a recall, or even a minor problem. http://www.checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/thumb.gif

I agree Rick....I've had a couple Toyota trucks and they were just as solid when I sold them as when I bought them. GREAT quality trucks. I'd have a Toyota Tundra right now if the back seat weren't the smallest in the business. That's why I ended up with the Silverado, it's the next best truck built after the Toyota....................
Chris, the RAV4 is a great little 4X4 econo 'ute. Probably why Consumer Reports keeps rating it the best of all the small utes......It's small on the outside and big on the inside, gets great gas mileage, has fantastic traction both going and stopping, good looking/fun to drive. The quality of the interior sold me, the GM/Saturn VUE and the Ford Escape both have such cheap interiors...........

I agree with both of you on one thing. All these North American companies cannot make those cute-ute things. When it comes to larger trucks, Chevy and GMC rule the road. Can someone compare anything to the trucks below? Consider it a challenge if you wish...
Chevy
Astro
Avalanche
Blazer
Express
S-10
Silverado
Suburban
Tahoe
Tracker
Trailblazer
GMC
Envoy
Jimmi
Safari
Savana
Sierra
Sonoma
Yukon
Cadillac
Escalade
Escalade EXT
Escalade ESV
Hummer
H2-SUT
This is a list of most current GM trucks. Feel free to quote this message and put in a truck that could be compared to it... We'll see what happens...

Ahhh the age-old topic of discussion that has been beaten like a dead horse.
What brand of truck is better? It all depends on whom you ask.
Its up to the person. But to have a little fun and me being a dodge man by birth I did a little research.
If you buy a dodge you can get a
1, Durango suv
2, Dakota, bigger than an s-10 and can get up to a 360 cid V-8
3, Van’s and size up to a 1-ton.
4, Ram 1500, 2500,3500. With a HEMI.
That’s it go buy one. Chrysler doesent sell trucks.
Now if you want a GM product. Here is where it gets interesting. Joe American public has pick one. Now not to start a major pissing contest but the except for little things like grill’s, wheels and trim the bulk of the vehicle is the same.
1, Avalanche, escalade ext. more $$ it says caddy on the side
2, Express, or sierra, or safari, or savanna. Same same
3, S-10, Sonoma
4, Silverado, Sierra, same
5, Suburban, escalade ESV, Envoy, Same again
6, Tahoe, escalade, and Yukon.
So the way I see it GM can basically sell the same vehicle to a bunch of different people due to brand loyalty. Cheep for them. Go big business.

1975 Checkmate Tri-mate 2, 2.4 200+
I agree with the GM thing. All they do is make different copies of each vehicle, but Chevy and GMC, mostly Chevy, are always the ones who come out with it first... Cadillac is a huge copy of everything, except they add 20K for all their luxury crap, which none of us can afford. Here is another list I made...
Ram 1500, 2500, 3500 with the Hemi- Silverado 1500, 2500, 3500, and the new SS!
Vans- They are all the same, every one of them...
All these companies should start making their own cool vehicles because in a small sense, they are all the same, ALL...
Checkmates may not be the fastest boats on the water, but they are the nicest looking!
You can't forget that best off-roaders ever made. HUMMER... In my opinion, its an awesome truck that doesn't have too much competition. For 80K, you get one hell of a deal for what the truck is...

Checkmates may not be the fastest boats on the water, but they are the nicest looking!
Z, soory it took so long to answer you rlast question, computer crashed, just got it back, yes I am die hard GM, I bought my wife the GMC Envoy. Our next plans are to trade the Envot, my wifr wants my truck and I will get the Hummer. That is about two years down the road. Don't waste the money on the plastic Escalade. My mother wnated one, when she went to drive it, well just say dissappointed. 62 grand for a plastic version of the Yukon. the engine is nice, but that is about it. I had a 2000 half ton GMC and hated it. Nothing but trouble! Engine, tranny, frame flex, you name it. In the 4 monthes I had it, the drivers doors even fell out of alignment! I LOVE my HD 2500 4X4. I don't think you can beet the Japanese vehicles if you are running to the grocery stores, but I would not want to tow anything above 18 feet or so with them.
80 grand for the h-2? You must mean Canadian. You can pick one up for 50 grand in the states.

It's good to see another person like myself, a diehard GM fan. All I own is Chevy's. I wouldn't mind getting a H2 but its a little out of my price range if I want to get a new boat... Which Envoy did you get? The normal one or the XL, because the XL/Trailblazer EXT have many electrical problems and I was told by my dealer that if I bought one, I'd have lots of problems because of new technology. This is the same guy that told me this that I have bought around 30-35 vehicles since I was able to drive... http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Checkmates may not be the fastest boats on the water, but they are the nicest looking!
Z I do not have th XL version, I think it is ugly. I am actually disappointed in the lack of power with the motor. I guess now you can get a v-8 in them. I hope the average income per person is a lot higher in Canada than here in the states.
True enough said... I think the Trailblazer EXT, but I probably won't get one... I like the normal ones more... You can get the Vortec 5300 V8 on the XL... I think the just weird, too long because all they did was extend it, too weird for my tastes... I think I'll stick with my Avalanche and maybe a Rendezvous or a older Camaro/Chevelle... My income is enough to afford what I want and still live comfortably in my 5 bedroom house... Other people is a different story... http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

Just curious, what do you do, your bio said you were a 17 year old student. I find it kind of interesting to see what other people do with their lives and what makes them tick. I have always wanted to ask Jim W. what an Avionics Tech rep does. It sound intersting, to me at least. I am not psycho, I am just interested in what makes the world go around and hell, I just might learn something http://www.checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/thumb.gif
Z, you either changed your profile, or I read the wrong one. I probably screwed up! Do you have kids for those 5 bedrooms? My next houe will be a little smaller but I layed the law, minimum five car garage with half of it 40 feet deep. Of course, that will probably be too small.
I am a firefighter... I really don't know what your talking about in my profile... I am 38 and I have 3 kids, so we all have our own room, plus an extra Nintendo Room as we call it... 5 car garage????????????????
Checkmates may not be the fastest boats on the water, but they are the nicest looking!
Like I said Z, I probably got it mixed up. ASnfar as the garage, that is for toys, my shop will be at least 100X100 to screw around in the winter inside. Of coarse, I need to find the property to do this on which is not easy here.
Toys... A F-13 could go good in there along with the Sierra, Envoy and 240!!!!!! I should store my cars at your place, LOL...
Checkmates may not be the fastest boats on the water, but they are the nicest looking!
You would have the cleanest cars around! When I want to forget about all the bullsh**, I start polishing and polishing and polishing... I was kind of embarrassed by the pic of my truck on the forum because it is dirty from all of the salt on the roads here. If a snow flurry is forcasted, they salt the hell out of the roads. I normally wash our vehicles 3 to 4 times a week. I know, I have a problem. You should see me try to keep the boat clean when out on the river for the weekend. Like we have discussed before, I HATE my stuff dirty. I would love to have an f-13, but know where to use it here. The river gets way too rough. If I had the room for a second boat, I would have to snatch Jim W's! I just love the Pulsare (my favorite Mate)
Oh my goodness, you are sound EXACTLY like me here... In the summer, I am out cleaning and waxing all our vehicles. When I am lucky in the winter, I can take my truck into the Fire Station and clean it overnight... I am basically the only person around me that has a clean truck in the middle of the winter, waxed and all... I get so p!ssed off when it gets all the salt on it... Here is what I say, "It looks good from far, but far from good" You'd have to get through me first for JW's boat! http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Well, the first thing to pull the boat is going to be a uhaul or something to get it back to Mass. Once it is home, for now I'll have to borrow my dad's 86 Chevy Suburban, black with grey interior, and a strong 350. Thats until I can get my utility vehicle on the road with a tow package. Nope, its not a SUV or a pick-up. Its... (I know I'm gonna get crap for this heh heh http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif) an 88 Chevy Caprice station wagon. Yup, I drive a wagon. To top it off, I love the thing. Rides like my living room couch, has all the room to bring myself and five friends camping with all our gear, and is entirely enclosed to keep us and our crap dry. Four full doors standard, and you never know when you'll need seating for nine! I would like to swap out the 307 for a 350, but I heard thats a major undertaking. When it all comes down to it though, I can't bring myself to put a hitch on my 69 Dodge. It just wouln't be right. http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

So Z, I take it that the Rendevouz is what you ended up with instead of the Impala?
And as far as boats being 'officialy' for sale or not, ALL boats are always for sale for the right price........... http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
1995 2100BR/1995 225 Promax/23" Tempest
Nope. The Rendezvous is what my wife wanted. The Impala SS is still in the plan but the scary thing is that I don't know a price yet. I am guessing somewhere in thr 40K range. I am trying to pick up a cheap price boat that willl be able to go 50+ and tow all the water sports. Thats my main goal right now. I'll have 3 cars, not 2.

I don't have a pic of it, but my Check is pulled my a Red 2000 Ford Crew cab Dually with a powerstroke.......Eatin' Duromax's and crappin' Cummins
Just a note to tell you that he Ford powerstrokeis in the last place this year when compared to the torque of a Chevy Duramax or a Dodge Cummings. The hypertech programmer released information stating the most performace added by a programmer to any motor has been the Duramax! How about this little fact, for every 1 Dodge truck sold there is 3 Fords and 3 Chevys sold. Also the Chevy has the best resale.

Like MoparMatt, I don't tow with a diesel. Nor is it a truck or a 4 door. But it is 4wd, backed by twin levers and lock outs. No crappy push button 4wd, no $1000 autocrappic trannys to blow, just 1 clutch disc...in 130,000 miles and the best part....it's PAID FOR!!! (long time ago) 1992 (I'm gonna get more crap) Ford...(even more crap) Explorer Sport. Rotted to hell and will not die. (not that rotted, just rockers) Tows well, just have to dump 2 gears going up hill but from my house to the lake, nice-n-flat. http://checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/lol.gif I don't care what I drive on land, but all of my toys are up to par.

Well I guess I just have to post my MFBY Tank. All the trucks will do. I went looking for any of the top three as long as they were diesel. Here's what I found for the right price.
1997 Ford F-250 Heavy Duty SuperCab 4x4 PowerStroke Diesel with 5 speed and 4.10 Positrac gearing.
I added the 4" Black Diamond lift and 325/70R-16 Nitto Terra Grapplers on Mickey Thompson 16x10 rims. I've done a few small assorted mods so far just to let it breath a bit better and improve the drivability. Go to www.TheDieselStop.com (http://www.TheDieselStop.com) and you'll find all things FORD. Figure out the MFBY?
Mighty Fine Boat Yankin Tank! Or something like that. http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

it's a V10 5.0 diesel Turbo twin intercooled. "the most powerful diesel ever build in a consumer car"(says Volkswagen, counting the torgue i think.)
standard 750 nm torgue,(313hp) and after chiptuning 920NM of torgue. (over 400hp)
i need the laserdetection and lasershield package. that's for sure http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
is 750nm the same as 750 lbs of torque? Surely not? I kbnow the new Chevrolet Duramax put out 590lbs of torque and 310 Hp. With a programmer the Duramax can jump a additional 90hp and almost 200 Lbs of Torque!

Tow Rig #1:

1976 GMC C-20 1 Ton Pickup
396,459 miles Chevy 292 I-6 engine, Turbo 400 transmission, K&N Air Filter
I bought this from a friend back in 1994 with 386,000 miles. He was going to drive it to the bone yard. I told him that I would give him a ‘buck’ for it. So..He sold it to me for $1. I then welded a new floor in it, bought door skins and fenders. I then trashed the bed and built the wood one. Spent about $800 on it. Drove it until 2001 and then re-built the whole drive train and suspension. Weighs 4,500 lbs. with a full tank. Rides like a ‘tank’ empty. But, put some weight in on and it rides more like the Roadmaster. And it’s a gas pig. Coop’s Freightliner gets better fuel mileage. Luckily, there’s some boating areas close by.

Thanks man. I try to think its pretty good mileage for the size. 7.5 mpg with 78,000 pounds at 75 mph across I-40 in Arizona is not so bad until I pump a hundred+ gallons a day into twin 150 gallon tanks. At around $2 a gallon. http://checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/brickwall.gif

Custom 3" mandral bent dual exhaust...$500
Reprogrammed the ECM (thanks Ford Experimental Team)...Priceless!
Dyno pulls with stock tires...350hp/550ft.lbs!
I'm thinking of selling and getting into a newer 3valve V8 (300hp stock now)... I really don't need the V10 for what I tow. Funny thing is I actually get 16mpg X-way not towing! It gets 3mpg better than it did stock...

Jim:
The best I can get is 14.5mpg. The lowest is 8. It makes no difference if the boat is behind the 5th wheel or not. I think the 5th wheel cuts all the wind and the boat is just along for the ride. I didn't buy it for the mieage though.
When we reprogram the Power Strokes, Cummins or Duramax, they almost all get better mileage.

I thought about a Diesel, but I have a 1.25 mile drive to work, and diesel is $2.29 a gallon today by me... and regular is $1.97. So the "mileage" gain isn't going to cover the cost difference in fuel. What a scam on the fuel prices when is costs way less to produce diesel!
I was thinking about dropping a Lightning 5.4L Supercharged motor in my truck... but realized my time, efforts, and cash could be better spent!

The lease on my '02 Silverado is almost up. My salesguy was telling me the best deals are on the Avs.
I have to figure out if I'm buying a new truck, or if I'm going to bite the bullet and buy out the current one.
If I get a new one I'll get a GMC. I can't stand the new grill and front end on the new Chev. It looks fine on the avs, but it just doesn't fit on the pickups.
Yep. For the first time we are leasing. We're going to give it a shot rather then buying a 55 thousand dollar vehicle. We're going all out though, Bose, DVD player, etc etc etc http://checkmate-boats.com/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif
Plus because of the Car show, you get a $1000 coupon off the vehicle and a 1% discount off the rate. We're also tradin in our old Avy so it works out great. Take delivery on Saturday or Monday of next week

My tow vehicle is a 2004 Nissan Frontier Crew cab 3.3L 4x4 automatic. It pulls the boat ok but has a bunch of understeer in the turns.
I just this week replaced my tow vehicle. I sold my beloved '04 Avalanche Z71 to my brother, and picked up a cheap lease deal: I now tow with an '06 Toyota Tundra SR5 Double Cab TRD 4X4. I'll have to take some pix (if it ever stops snowing/raining here!)

Here's mine without the boat attached. I'm hoping to make 200k+ like the one my dad has (nearly identical). These things are indestructible with the 5.3L.
That one reminds me of my '01 Silverado Z71 extra-cab 4-door. Loved the truck, but the wife made me sell it early because it had the dreaded '99 - '02 'knock' engine. So I traded it for the '04 Avalanche that my brother owns now. I loved my black '01!

JW, I'm suprised the TOYO was cheap on a lease. Up here those things are 200 bucks or so more a month than a GM. With zero down I got mine for a touch over 500 bucks a month on a three year lease. The TOYO was 700ish. The main reason for the difference is Toyota are always running their leases at 6,7,8 percent and GM are running incentive galores on theirs. BUT on all my GM's, at the end of the least the vehicles are all worth way less than the buyout. So I just walk away and get a new one. It wouldn't surprise me if the Toyota had some equity at the end though.

Ah, I'm not worried about the "knock". I hear it occasionally on cold startup, but my dad's has done that for over 150,000 miles. Apparently it isn't a big problem. He pulls an enclosed car hauler or a heavy tractor on his frequently. We have 3 of these (99, 02, 04) in the family and so far out of nearly 350,000 miles on them the maintenance was one $600 ABS module on the 99. No brake pads, nothing. I'm sold.
Chris, down here you can lease that TRD crew cab Tundra 4X4 for $290 a month with 15,000 miles a year allowance!!!!! I think the 12,000 mile a year lease is $270. That's the out the door price too. It's advertised at $239 plus TTL. The Chevy I leased (the '99 Z71 extra cab 3-door) cost me $100 more a month, with a 12k lease.
I liked my '04 Chevy Avalanche Z71 best of all 6 trucks I've owned. This Toyota is more sophisticated and drives better, but my Avalanche was LOADED with toys and had better seats.
Big Man Z06 have an 05 Avalanche Z71 on lease right now and I believe it's 2..something a month (remember this is in Canadian funds folks) with a 12K allowance per year (we already surpassed the first year one (we're at 16K)
This on a fully loaded, 55K Avalanche with all the stuff.
I love the Avalanche...I guess so does my dad thats why we got another one.
Too bad you got out of the Avy Jim

Apparently some people do, but if you read my post above, I'd say your chances of that being a great truck are pretty good. All of ours are 2wd, 5.3, AT, towing pkg, locking rear. We're in the South, so I guess we need the 4wd a little less.
JW, last I knew the 4wd GM's still didn't have rack and pinion steering where the 2wds do. Is that still true? That may account for some of the driving issues. The 2wds are great, especially with the stiffer springs on the towing package.
The only two known problems with the '99 - '02 4.8/5.3 and 6.0 engines is the start-up piston slap that sounds like bad lifters, and the sticky throttle body that needs to be cleaned with a rag and cleaner every 10,000 miles.
The 4WD trucks wander a bit, but I never had any problems with any of mine. Not quite as tight on the road as my new Toyota, but the chevy's I had were never a problem.
BullittBen
12-12-2005, 07:40 AM
They must have fixed the throttle body by 02. My dad's 99 and my old 00 had that problem bad. I'm not convinced that the "piston slap" is piston slap even though that's what it sounds like. If it was, I would think that it would get worse or be a problem. It shouldn't be able to do that for 150,000 miles.
It's carbon build-up that causes the piston slap in the '99 - '02 engines. Sometime in '03 they started with new pistons that are coated to keep the carbon from building up on the skirts. My '04 didn't have the problem that my '99 and '01 had.
They also switched to a throttle-by-wire system on my Avalanche, so if it had the sticking throttle body I wouldn't have known it! All my throttle did was rotate a rheostat.
JW,
What are the symptoms of the throttle body problem? What needs to be cleaned and how do you do it?
Thanks
The fumes from the engine (after it's shut down) migrate up the intake manifold and get to the throttle plate and mix with minute particles of dust. After many months, the build-up causes the throttle plate to get sticky.
Pull the air intake plastic tube away from the front of the intake plenum, where you find the throttle plate. Wedge the throttle plate full open, and with a clean cotton rag and some carb cleaner, you wipe/scrub the black buildup from the throttle plate seat area. Throttle feels like new again.
One way to help keep the build-up from happening is to run gas with extra fuel injection cleaner in it, like Shell V-Power.

Z, I lease a lot of vehicles. Avalanches are not 200 bucks a month. They might be 200 a bucks a month with 10K down but not with zero down.
When I lease a vehicle I just call them tell them what I want and they arrange everything. No deposit, no haggling. I get them for a couple of percent over invoice regardless of the sticker price. My company has a deal with GM and Chrysler.
I asked my sales guy on the last truck we bought and we got it for 900 bucks a month or so over invoice. It still works out to be a little over 500 a month plus tax. That's on the low kilometer plan with GM which is 20K a year. A regular lease is 24K. But I can tell you a loaded Toyo would be 700ish plus tax. And Toyo dealers don't haggle much. I tried on a Corrola once and gave up and just bought something else with cash.
I just priced a Tundra Double Cab LTD with Auto on Toyota.ca.
List $49,425
Lease Rate: 5.9%
Term: 48 Months
Allowance 24K
Price: $837.21 Tax and Freight Included.
In order to get that truck down to $600 a month tax in, which keep in mind is still a few bucks more than my Crew Cab loaded Sierra, you'd have to get 9,000 grand off the sticker price. Even with 5,000 grand off the sticker, the monthly payment is still $703.10.
My truck is a '05 Crew Z71 SLT. Posi, chrome step bars, moonroof, Bose 6 pack stereo, towing package, bedliner, upgraded rims, upgraded tires......in short there were no options left to order on this truck. There were a few different things you could substitute, but nothing additional.
And the price clocked in at 515 or so plus tax, which comes in a hair below 600 a month. And that's for 36 months, not 48.
Personally, I wouldn't take a Toyota over a Chev for the same price. If the Toyota was a bit less, maybe I'd have a look. But 200 bucks a month more? Not a chance.
Hey Chris,
Thats the part I was forgetting. I believe that since we traded in our old 02 Avalanche, and there was a lien payout, that they put down about $5500 or some number like that http://www.checkmate-boats.com/graemlins/sleep.gif
It's probably closer to $300/month on the lowest KM plan, but the reason we did it this way is because we have never kept a vehicle for more than a couple years so after this, we can throw them back the keys and do it all over again.
As for Toyo, I've heard so much mixed stuff about them. I mean I've grown up as a CHev boy my entire life, but then again some people I know swear by them Toyos, although the number of Chev's to Toyos is about 10-1 up here in Ottawa http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Sounds like you guys can buy the Chevys about as good as us, but not the Toyos! Toyota is using the USA to gain world dominance, and will be the #1 car builder in the world some time next year. That's probably why the 36 month lease deal on a Tundra Crew is $239 a month and the Chevy Crew is $400+ a month.............That and resale value. Down here, a Chevy will drop it's value in HALF in 24 months, the Toyo will only drop about 25%.

I didn't read through all the posts but I may have the worst combo, or at least it may seem like it. I have a 1988 251 Convincor and my tow vehicle is a 1996 Toyota 4 runner 3.4 v-6! I think the boat weighs about 6200-6500lbs? I have a 1996 3/4 ton Ford w/460 at home also, but towing the boat the Ford gets 7.5 mpg. and the Toyota gets 15 pulling the boat and 21 by itself! I tow with the Toyota 90% of the time. I keep the overdrive off and take it easy. It NEVER downshifts nor NEVER even unlocks the torque converter. I do 65 on the straights and 55-60 up hills and don't mash the throttle. When I take the boat out of the ramp I put it in 4 low and it almost idles out. It really amazes me! The yoter gots 170,00 miles on it also.

I don't know how many miles are on it smsmith, but you'll love it. Those are the greatest trucks ever made. Tons of usable power and still almost 20 mpg. My father's is now over 200,000 miles on the original brakes and everything (one $500-600 plug-in ABS part total maintenance). It tows cars on flat and enclosed trailers, tractors, you name it. He finally has an 07 2500 Duramax on the way, but the 99 1500 has been amazing. Mine is passing 100k, but is perfect and has had $0 maintenance costs. It never stops moving and has only been washed once in 50k miles.

Hey guy's, Just picked up what will now be my tow vehicle this past saturday. I know some of you guys may laugh and my girl friend is even making fun of me. It's a 2005 Jeep Liberty diesel. It only had 6000 miles on it when I picked it up and it looks the same as a new one. I wasn't sure about the tow capabilities, but 26mpg sure sounded good. Wow! What a surprize! This thing jerks the Pulsare around like it's nothing. Pulls just as good as my F150 V8. Only thing is, when I unhook the boat and go back to work on Monday, I get 25 to 28mpg instead of 12 to 15! That just means more gas money for the boat next weekend! And after all, isn't that why we play the work game in the first place? boatman

I tow a 300 Convincor on a triple axle trailer with a 2005 Dodge 1500 Crew Cab 4x4, Hemi V-8 with the 20" wheels and big horn package. I absolutely love it and would recommend it to anyone. Best gas engine that I have ever pulled with. I get 9 mpg towing at any speed up to 80mph so I tow as fast as I can down the highway when it doesn't matter on fuel mileage. Empty I get 14.7mpg average. I hear a lot of horror stories about gas mileage on these things but have never experienced it. After 20,000 miles I have only changed oil and rotated tires. Had one check engine light in the first 1,000 miles that was an Oxygen sensor and nothing since, knock on wood.

WOW, that good On The Hammer. Last year I pulled my 283 from New York to Ohio for the Checkmate Poker Run. I had a 2002 Dodge 1500 SLT crew cab 4x4, with the 360, Tow Package, and i got 4-5 MPG with this truck. If i was to turn the A/C on, the power dropped way off.
This year I bought a Dodge 2500 SLT crew cab, 4x4 Diesel, Man what a difference. I got around 15 MPG towing my boat to the Checkmate run this year. Tows it like it's not even there. I've gotta say, I'll never own a gas tow vehicle again.

Man I can't believe the mileage you guys talk about with Fords and Dodges whether you're towing or not. You don't have to deal with that to have a good truck. When any of us with GM trucks tell people what they can do, no one believes us. My 2002 GMC 1500 Ext Cab 5.3L and a 3.42 axle gets 18-20 avg mpg in everyday driving (no highway - fighting Myrtle Beach Traffic) and towing my little boat makes little difference. My brother's 2004 with the same equipment but a 3.73 axle averaged 18-19 mpg pulling a 4000+ pound 67 Pontiac through the North Carolina mountains. These are the best trucks anyone has ever made hands down and they'll run for 200,000 miles without even changing the brakes. On top of all of that, they're quick (290 or more HP), they corner and handle well and they have nice, comfortable interiors.

Just picked up my new (to me) tow vehicle this past Friday. Its a 78 F-150 4x4 with the 400, C-6, and the 203 (Full time) transfer case. Can't wait to get started on this thing too, have never had a Ford before but am super stoked about it. Cab is in great shape, just needs sanded and painted. Bed needs replaced. And of course I found an article all about properly building up the 400 to about 400 or so ponies. I'll get some pics this week. Nobody happens to have a transfer case for this layin around by chance do they (chain is slipping and differential is bad)?

The site is looking great Z. :)
Right now theres very little content due to the fact I got rid of it all for 2007. Last year we covered a bunch of car shows and races including Autocross & Calabogie Motorsport Park
We'll be up in TO for the Performance World Custom Car and Truck Show on March 10.

ITS TIME FOR SOMEONE TO ORGANIZE THE VOTING, ONE YEAR IS TO LONG TO GET PICS. A LOT OF PEOPLE ALREADY HAVE HAD 2 PULL RIGS BY NOW. SET A TIME FRAME LIKE THE BOAT OF THE MONTH. IT STINKS TO GO THREW 1 YEAR OF bs TO LOOK AT THE PICS
