Have a Maxxum 229 O/B with a 300 hp V-8 Johnson. I looking to move down to a 225 hp XL.My question is will a 225-250 push it ?

I'M GUESSING A 3 LITRE MERC 225 OR 250 WILL PUSH IT ALONG QUITE NICELY. BUT FOR THE MONEY, WHY NOT GET A 300PM OR 300X PM?

That would be nice,but I have not been able to find a used Pro 300 XL. I have been able find lots of 225-250 power XL.
