I also wanted to post this on the board. The big question is this: If the rot extends all the way to the transom, can the transom be repaired without tearing the whole back end apart?
Thanks in advance!

I just finished doing my floor. I replaced the floor and the center beam from under the dash to the transom. The transom in my 84 Predictor was separate from the floor. The floor was 3/8” resin covered ply that was glassed to the transom. Between the end of the floor and the transom there was epoxy that just sanded right off. When the boat was first built, the transom/hull was glassed first. The floor and interior were added later.

On my boat the floor was gone around the bilge, the gas tank had ripped out of the floor and I put my foot though the floor in front of the captain chair. The same rear cross stringer was also rotted and I replaced it. Replace the rear cross stringer first before removing the floor the rest of the way. This way your hull won’t loose it’s shape. I started ripping out wood until I hit good solid wood. I made splices for the new ply to the old ply. The goal is to keep as much of the original glassed joints as possible.

So, just because the floor is gone doesn’t mean your transom is shot, too.

Hey jrs1958:
You don't have any pictures of the work in progress do you? I would think that with only 1 year difference the construction of the 2 Predictors would be the same.

Thanks

Sorry, I didn’t start taking pictures until started on the seat pedestal bases. But, here are a few pictures of how the floor turned out.

I enlarged the bilge to 10” x 14” from 4”x 6”. I used ½” BC rated plywood for the floor that I glassed with mat on both sides and brushed resin on the ends. The center beam under the floor was replaced by splicing the new section to the original beam under the dash. The center beam, bilge, rear cross beam along with the new gas tank mount is ¾” BC rated plywood also glassed and resined. Everything was screwed together with stainless steel screws and I used 2.5 gallons of expanding foam under the floor. The 2 round white hatches are inspection ports that will let me take a look under the floor every now and then.
