i have an 83 eluder and the back seat is pretty bad. i want to rebuild it and am wondering what wood to use. and what would be a decent price to expect to have someone make the new cover. i only want it to be a solid color to help ease the price....thx, bill

I am replacing all the wood for my seats also. I am using 1/2 plywood coated with poly resin and bi-axle glass in the stress areas. Just make sure the wood is sealed. I used the old frame as a pattern. I have not found a shop to cover the new seats yet, but the old covers are still ok so they can use them for the pattern.

If you buy fir plywood good one side, it typically contains marine glue.

At least it's that way up here in Canada. http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Ive reupholster several boats, front buckets and a bench cost between $500.00 and $700.00.
Ive seen cheaper jobs but the quality really sucks. Go for the extra money and add some lines like the originals, if you go all flat no lines you will hate it, looks boaring.
A nice interior can really make a boat.

Last winter I was in the same boat as you ,87 Starfire, badly cracked interior,I had rebuilt the bench, (buckets were plastic),and I was desperate for someone to cover them. These people are out of control, instead of pursuing an auto mechanic career, I should have bought a sewing machine. I contacted Mike at Checkmate,he hooked me up with a new vinyl kit, gunnels, engine hatch , everything, cheaper than the quote for the seats.Best of all, they came with logos embossed. When you call him, ask him for a few tips on wood/glass etc. He will be more than happy to tell you.
