well it finally happened the actuator on my 253 convincor engine cover went out in the down possition. its been a little sluggish lately. I know this has happened to some of you. I could use some suggestion on how to release it so I can replace it. I haven't tried any thing drastic yet

if checkmate was thinking, their should be an access panel near that hatch lift so you can stick your hand in and pull a pin (hopefully its not nut and bolted).

I agree, yes there is a pin its a matter of getting at it. I don,t want to break or cut anything. I switched to both optima batteries hoping to get one more lift out of it but no such luck. I remember some dicussion on this last year but don't what anybody did. some help would be great. I'm going to try pulling the hatch up while someone is hitting the switch hope it works. A release cable would be great I going to rig one up next time.

hopefully you can pull the hatch up enough to unlatch it.. or unbolt it.. your a lucky one at least your battery switches aren't under the hatch.. and some manufactures put the switches, and the battery's under the hatch... a simple solution to the problem is a pvc pipe, router out a notch.. say about 2 foot on both sides (this slides thru the nut and bolt.. or pull pin.) then drill a hole to accomodate your pin... slide it over the actuator, and wham.. you can still get the hatch up, and it will stay down when your running.. it takes a lil bit to get it all tweeked in..

i looked at my 95 253, it looks like you may be able to use a hook and go through the bildge vent and pull the large hair pin at the top of the ram.good luck.
let us now how you make out.
