While winterizing my father's Sea Ray in my driveway (how did i get roped into this) i look up to see a beautiful mid 90's Pulse 185 white, with black and red stripes go by. Boat was in great shape. Fair? no way!! Someday it will be me turning someone else green!!

I know that feeling all to well Chris. When I was 18 I inherited some cash, bought a 171 Spectra brand new.Got to keep it for one year, till I got the wife pregnent.BYe,bye boating!Went without a boat for almost 10 years, then I started back in with a little rinker 16 ft.I watched those Mates all the time fly by,and thought of the old Spectra. You will get a good mate someday, especially with your Marine background.Hold out for that perfect deal.I always kick myself in the arss after I get a boat and see a better deal one week later, search, scan and have patiance,it will show when your least expecting it.You will be tooling along and pass that right boat and just know thats the one!Thats how you find the deals, right place ,right time. This GTX I got is real nice, but I paid for it,top dollar.Sometimes a little extra cash will get you that boat that doesnt need a whole lot,as with this GTX,shes almost mint. And I dont use mint too much, its overused in the sales market.

Define Envy.. Running down the river at at 50+ and catching and passing a 22 Velocity we stepped it up to 65-67 and then he backed off and stopped. I went back he gassed it looking like he wanted to race. So we lined up, hit it, both came out side by side, I get about a boat ahead at a little over 70, and run for a couple of seconds, he looks over and waves as he pushed the throtle and walks away... He had a blower on a 502... So he says, 90mph.. I don't doubt it
I call that envy on the water... Velocity's not a Mate but it sure is bad a**
No matter how fast you are someone else is faster....
Here's what I am making a deal on this week to torment the local bass boat guys. With a 150 she'll run 80+. It's a gutted 543 pound boat. I'll put 135 stickers on the 150 and drive the bass boys nuts with their 225's and 250's http://checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/xxrotflmao.gif

I love to do that. Everyone hears me coming now, but last year I had a blown 502 with silent choice running 92mph. You let them think they have you beat and then nail it. http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

JW that hydrostream looks light, fast and fun!I bet it doesnt like rough water though,my lake is always rough,so that kind of hull is of no use to me,but it sure looks fun anyways! http://checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

JW... At least you'll have a new TOY!!! I bet you miss that sweet mate you had (other than too big for your lake)! I'm glad to see that you aren't getting the Blah...blah...blah for owning something other than a Checkmate! I have had so many different ones it's hard to keep track!!! I'll have to post a list some day.... Jim. http://checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/thumb.gif
P.S. I've had a few Hydrostreams as well...17 Vector with a warmed up 2.4L 200 (80+mph), and a 20' Vegas XT with a built 2.4L Bridgeport (95+mph). Boat were FUN boats, just a bit SCARY on the top end! They always feel like your driving a playing card that your trying to control the flight when someone "flicks" it... Be careful not to blow-over!!!
Yep, bow down means NO trim, little setback, and a Cleaver instead of a bow-carrying prop. This is Instigators boat from Scream and fly. When he tested it before purchase, it had a 2.0 150 on the back, rotten floor/wet heavy coring and with two guys and it ran 75 mph with the propshaft 4" below the pad.
Now it's gutted, coring replaced, transom re-inforced with full height knees, and new taller stringers running front to aft. At 543 pounds, which is 1/2 the weight of my 1992 Pulse 171, it should run strong! A good 150 horse mounted high with a big prop should push this over 80. Here's a pic of the rear:

Looks like the making of a fine water rocket! On my 17 Vector with the 200 Merc, I re-worked the bottom and made a nice flat "pad"... really reduced the v-walk with 80+mph runs!!!
LOTS of pros/cons to reworking the bottoms. This one was kept stock and heavily re-inforced. The records for top speeds in the Vectors and Vipers are held with the original 'wedged' and 'hooked' bottoms. Some have had good luck modifying the pad, others have ruined the hull. Sounds like you did yours correctly!
