Chris,
Since you love to ski, and are in the market for a new wheel, I thought this might interest you. Mercury has a new wheel out called Maximus. It is a new high performance five bladed prop and shows some incredible numbers. It is slightly faster than the 4 blade at WOT and blows away the 4 blade on aceeleration all over the board. It sounds like it might be a couple of monthes or so before your application is out, but it might be something to look into.

From everyone I've talked to the laser II is the way to go. The high five sucks for just about everything including skiing. So I'll probably attempt to pick up a cheap one on ebay. http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Sounds real interesting Bill! Make sure you let us know where to find info when it comes out. I know that an independant prop maker has been winning offshore races with REALLY expensive 5-blade wheels. Looks like maybe Mercury is doing some copying.... http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

Chris, I think you missed my point, this old not the old high five, this is new, derrivred for the Catalina ski race. JW is right, some of the best race props from formula 1 to offshore are 5 bladed and the unlmited hydros would be running them if not illegal. This is NEW technology. Powerboat Mag said they can't wait to get their hans on some when Mercuy comes out with them for below 500hp.

Well, we'll see. The high five is sooooo bad on my boat, I'd have to have some pretty hard evidence that this new prop was awesome before I'd put my hard earned money down on another five blader.

Since this is nothing really for sale here...I'll move it over to "Play To Win", and let everyone convince me another five blader is the way to go. http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

You are probably right Chris, I would wait and see, and who knows, by the time this makes it to the public, you might have a pulsare. I guess something we all need to remember, these Mag. test are not always all they are cracked up to be. It is all about advertising dollars. And when it comes to outboards, I never thought I would say this, but I think Mercury is on the down hill slide because of who owns them, and Bombardier is going to be the way to go 5 years down the road. Of course that is a whole different topic!

Personnaly I don't like 5 blade props unless you are running a radical "X" dimension or are running a Cat hull. Those 5 blades just have too much prop in the water for us Deep "V" guys.

My experience: 1995 Checkmate Persuader 183, 4.3 LX motor, Alpha drive w/ 1.62:1 gears. 21" High-five prop: Excellent holeshot, smooth, great for ski work. Good in turns. Perfect for that rig for tow pig work. Compared to my 23" Laser II on the same hull, it was about 5-7 mph slower, with about 700 higher rpms.

Mine slips big time. Slips on take off and then gains traction and is ok on the straight aways. But, if you enter a turn, even a gentle one, it starts slipping and the RPMs climb. It's a pain, you are pulling skier and you try to make a gentle turn at the end of a run to turn around and you have to fight to keep the boat at a consistent speed.

Thats weird... http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif What is the main purpose of your prop. Do you use it more for water-sports, speed, cruising, or a mix... http://www.checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/sleep.gif

Checkmates may not be the fastest boats on the water, but they are the nicest looking!
