View Full Version : Convincor Swim Platforms

Does anyone know how those fiberglass swim platforms are constructed? (The ones held up by support brackets, not the integrated ones.) I pulled a bracket off of my Convincor that had a failed weld to send in for a new one, and it looks like it is teak wood sandwiched between fiberglass and gel.
The reason I ask is, there sure are a lot of screws/bolts penetrating that platform, and if it’s teak, that would be good for combating water infiltration. The way the brackets are attached, it isn’t really a waterproof installation. If it’s teak, I’m not to concerned. No water damage in any of the holes, but if it is not teak, I’m going to seal them all up.

If its between layers of fiberglass it will be balsa or plywood.

I was hoping it was teak, it looks like that ledger piece up against the transom at the corner is teak, I don’t know.
That could be a problem area, then. I have no water damage, yet, but I could tell when I took the brackets off, that water was getting into the screw holes. Likewise at the larger holes for the bolts that go thru the transom on the bottom legs of the brackets. The transom core is good and solid, but you can plainly see that water was making it’s way in…Only a matter of time...They (factory) put sealant between the bracket and transom, and between the bracket and swim platform, but that doesn’t stop water from entering in and around the screw and bolt heads.
When I put my brackets back on, I’m gong to use some 3m 5200 and rubber washers on the screws and bolts.
Anyone else have some feedback?
