View Full Version : Another 175 Mate to be saved
Morning all,
I have recently purchased a 1974 175 Checkmate with a 135 Evinrude. The boat has none of the origianal interior and is in need of a major facelift. The previous owner bolted riding lawnmower seats (Craftsman, I kid you not) inside this beautiful boat and I intend to remedy that over the winter months. The problem is this, I do not have any idea of what the origianal floor plan looked like for this boat. I have not decided at this time whether to go origianal or custom. Is there anyone out there with pics of my boat restored? Also, I would be interested in knowing the value of this Mate restored. Any help I recieve will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Again.......Rod

Welcome to the board and congrats on the new boat. Going to need a few pictures of the boat and the interior to help with your problem. They changed the configuration of the seats between boat models so its had to say with out seeing the boat.
As far as value. Well it real hard to say. Most of the real old models IE 47,75,76 are restored out of love for the classics and not resale value. Real hard to put a price on it. My trimate will be all new when completed and I could sell it for 1/2 of what I have in it.
Good luck with the project and post pictures and questions.

If it is a 1974, a 17 footer and the hull configuration when viewed from the front looks like the photo in my avatar then more than likely you have a clone of my boat. A TRV-17. According to the guys here the TRV's are early Trimates.
I do have some pics of what the original layout should be. Check this thread and see if it looks like your boat----1974 TRV-17 Project (http://checkmate-boats.com/groupee/forums/a/tpc/f/5951067833/m/6031018863)

Thank you so much for the quick response. It appears that we do indeed have the same boat. Mine is a dark brown metal flake hull with a gold metal flake top. The upper section is badly oxidized. Any tips on restoring this to near origianal condition or do I need to look at possibly painting it.

http://checkmate-boats.com/graemlins/welcome.gif glad to have another TRV/Trimate owner on the site. Browse around the site, there should be pictures of almost every interior layout for your boat on here. Do a search on TRV's and Trimates, you should find lots of info on here.

Sweet another TRV-17 / trimate. http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://www.checkmate-boats.com/graemlins/thumb.gif http://checkmate-boats.com/graemlins/bounce.gif
If you look at the pics in my thread you will see that the top side of mine is heavily oxidized as well. I am hoping all I need to do is sand and regell in clearcoat. If you like the color then you could do that. If not either regell in a different color or paint it.
If you have some pics I would love to see them.
