I just looked it again and that motor looks huge, like heightwise. Very nice though

It was a fun boat. The first time I put it in the water was also the first time I had driven a boat. I did know what the no wake zone was, but as soon as I was past that I pushed it to full throttle and in no time was up to 55mph. As I turned to my girlfriend (now my wife) and smiled, my smile turned to alarm when I jumped the first wake of many and had to grope for the throttle while being launched out of my seat. We must have got some serious air because we came down hard. I am a little more watchful of the speed now, and my wife helps too. It was a great first boat, very sporty - not to roomy. My next one might be a spectra 170...

Hey Fuse-
those are cool looking vents on the deck, what do they do?
And how is Asheville, did you get flooded?

looks like it has a bow tank.. you can see the fuel fill on the left side of the front deck.. those would be fresh air vents to ventilate the bow of gas fumes

Looks like a nasty fuel stain too. http://checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/sick.gif

I just bought a 76 V-Mate II, and mine does not have the bow vents, but it has vents in the stern area. I have not picked up the boat yet (hopefully this weekend) so I am assuming that my fuel tank is in the rear end. Does anyone know if that is correct? Just out of curiousity, when and why did they change it?

I have a one owner, low hour Merc 115, "Tower of Power" lined up for the boat. I hope that this is enough to not disappoint me. This is my first boat, but I'm already a speed freak from cars so we will see.

I too have a 76 V Mate II. No vents in the front but in the back as you describe. My fuel tank is in the back. You'll have a great time with it, enjoy

I'm just guessing, but they probably moved the tank back for better performance. I also wonder if the elimination of the seperate trim pump freed up space so that the tank could be relocated to the transom area? Just a thought...
