Predictor Gas Tank Altered

Hello,

I am buying a 78 Predictor and after putting down a substantial deposit found out that the gas tank had been moved from the rear to the front of the boat. Can anyone comment? Thanks.

Is it about 18" square tank and about 30" long ? If so the prior owner relocated the tank for the same reason I did in my Predictor. He had bad back wash when he stopped and he wanted to make the bow drop faster from a hole shot. You need to move the tank back, first you could have a fire hazard with no vent in the bow and the long fuel line, second, the boat will be a lot faster with the weight in the back.. The tank in the front does not do much for you... Move it and get your bow storage back...

Hey,Don't jump ship yet! If installed properly it shouldn't be a problem.Just have someone check it out for ya.It'll probably handle better with the weight up front anyway.

mls72... Sorry if I scared you... If the prior owner just relocated the tank it's no big deal to move it back... Take out the back seat and put it back..
If you want to leave it in the front,thats not a problem just make sure it fills from the outside on the bow deck,put air intake vents on the bow and make sure the fuel line is secured. If the tank is the portable 6Gal type make sure it is secured with brackets and straps

yeah, just move the tank back the holes should still be there from when the guy took the tank out, I had to take my tank out to replace the buildge pump and it took me like 2 hours so its not a big project to get the tank where it belongs

The holes are still there. I'm picturing this boat on fire and me and my 2 kids jumping ship. I can't believe how smooth that boat rides, I was expecting a bumpy ride/ I'll call my mechanic maybe he'll do it for me.

I put the boat up for sale but after reading your posts I feel much better. Now I can't seem to remove the "for sale" sign.

Its not a bad job at all, should be fairly cheep to put it back in the rear. Also I removed your 4 sale post for ya.

Having the gas tank up front is no more of a fire hazard than it is in back, as long as the vent is plumbed to the outside like it was in the rear and it fills from an external point. I've had several boats with front mounted gas tanks with no problems. The weight up front is why it rides so nice for you, but it may effect your ultimate top speed.

Very interesting thread!
I have been thinking about doing the same thing.
Having a 300lb motor, 16 gals of gas and 3 adults in the boat(1 in back) pulling a 12 yr old on a tube the boat tends to take a while to plane. Part of the problem could be the 22P prop. But if you add the weight of the motor, the gas and 1 adult, there is alot of weight in the back.
