Thanks chris, I just bought the boat in December and had it out for the first time last friday, and love it! Later that day I sold my 1990 Diplomat, I;m going to miss it. The 219 has a 454/310hp with 53 hrs. Extras include, capt. call and trim tabs. When I got it needed new tires, water pump(impeller), a good buff and coat of wax. The boat came with a 14 x 23 mach and runs 66mph at 4600 rpms. after talking to mike at checkmate he recomended that I try a 14 x 23 mirage plus or turbo viper 14 x 23 as well as the turbo ultama 4, because the boat should run 68-70 mph. I did try a 22 bravo 1 but only ran 64 mph at 6400 rpms. I would like to get it out this sat if the weather is good to try more props. The next step is to take the boat up to rick and install a better stareo, depth gadge, and insall the matching cockpit cover I got from checkmate.

Correction, the bravo was 64mph at 4,400 rpms

Had a chance to take the boat out this past sat. and play with some props. Thanks to sum good friends I had the use of a 23 mirage 70at 4500rpms,27 mirage 68 at 4400rpms, and a mirage plus 71mph at 4600rpms with 3/4 tank of gas by myself in flat water. Can't wait to get it out again and see if I can get more out of it. But what a differance! Love it!

Thanks JW I'd love to see 73mph. But my speed is speedo not GPS. I have to try my friends hand held unit to see how close my gadge is. Now I just need to try a 25 pitch to see what that would do. Are you going to make it up to ricks in Aug.? I'd love to see youor rig and do some high speed runs with you.

JW

The visit to Ricks is a 98%, pulling the Pulsare up is about a 2%. I HATE towing my boat long distances (over 30 miles) and I'd have to go through Chicago...Yuck. But I definitely want to get to Ricks for August. I've already been offered article space in Family and Performance Boating if I go and take pix and do an article for them.

Pete, That is one good looking Mate that I would raft with up in Green Bay! Can't race you though, you have me there http://www.checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/thumb.gif Any ideas when you are heading up there and where you are staying? Stephanie and I go through Janeville on the way up. We are staying at the holiday Inn City Center. They are right in the Rock River, only a stones throw from Rick's place. Thay have slips if you want to keep the boat in the water overnight, of course so doe Rick!!! http://www.checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/xxrotflmao.gif

JW, I hear what you're saying with the trailering. I'm not a big fan of it myself, expecally when it would come to going through Chicago. I'm happy to hear that you're going to make it up to ricks. And cool to hear about the article, are you going to write it?

Thanks Bill, I can't wait to see your new boat. The pictures look awesome. It sounds like it's working out very well. I'm not going to outrun you by very much, it sounds like you're right behind me with the speed, especially when you get to try your 25 mirage. Have you found a steering wheel that you like yet? We have a cottage located up in Suring, Wis. which is about an hour north of Green Bay. It's out in the country but my parents only live five miles away on a lake. We don't trailer the boat up there much because of the distance (3.5 hours one way). When we get there we just use my parents' pontoon or our 14 ft. miro craft with a 7.5 merc. Not the same as the checkmate but it does the job. I don't know if we're going to commute from up there down to Ricks' or if it will be down here in Janesville. My wife and myself are both teachers and have the priviledge of having the summers off. We were very fortunate and blessed to have our daughter born in August and are very lucky to have wonderful grandparents who love to babysit. So, all we need to do is to find out if they are willing to watch for a Friday afternoon and Saturday. We will probably come down Friday afternoon to do some boating, go to the fish fry, and stay overnight, and then do some more boating on Sat. We will probably stay at the Holiday Inn on the Fox River, not too far from Ricks. I will probably take the boat out of the water on Fri. night because I always like to keep the boat neat, clean, and safe. I'm kind or a neat freak.

Bill
04-29-2003, 11:16 PM
Nothing wrong with a neat freak Pete! I already have made arrangements to keep mine inside Fri, Sat, and Sun night. My wife calls me anal, among other things. http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif Crgrats on the new baby, lucky man, new baby and boat. I know what wheel I want, just trying to lock a few things in so I can place an order with Rick. I change my mind too much. Thank god for EBAY, i will but things, and a week later not like it, so I sell it. The bonus of not having Kids http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Hopefully in the next couple of weeks, I will have a Mirage plus figured out and a Bravo 4 blade. This goes against everything I have read, but the Mirage Plus carries the boat really weel in flat water, and Kip said the Bravo will carry it better in the rough stuff. I can't wait to run some rough stuff. Again, great looking boat, would love to see it in Green Bay!

Anyone else who may be coming to my August event, I have room inside for your boats. Looks like we have a great response so far, might even have a local celebrity in the works..who's also a Checkmate owner! Rick http://www.checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/thumb.gif

Thanks again bill, I am very lucky. But my boat will look better floating next to yours along with a full cooler of course! I hear what you're saying, I think the marige 23 will be the best for my boat for top end but would still like to try the 25. I have a 22 bravo 1 that I tryed, not the best on top end (64mph) but handaled great and gave one hell of a whole shot! I'll probally buy the bravo from my friend scince he cant spin it with his Baja 272. He up-graded his 454 mag with a 502 and put on a pro charger, Now the 22 brovo does not work and he will give it to me for $250 (like new, Not a bad price. Where did you find the best prices for merc props? I went to go-fast.com and they had mirages for $460. Know of others?

Bill
04-30-2003, 06:39 PM
Pete,
The Bravo I have is the one I ordered with the boat and Checkmate is good enought o exhange it and work with me on finding the right prop that works. My Mirage Plus I bought on EBAY, Got it new with shipping for only 350.00. Unfortunately that is too small, so I am working with Checkmate also on that sice it was kind of a crap shoot on props since they have run had a chance to r&d the boat/motor/drive/gear ratio I have. My final results are looking promising.

I'll keep my eye on E-BAY to look for a mirage +, or would you like to sell me yours?

Bill
05-01-2003, 07:27 PM
Pete, I would seel it to you, but I am exchanging it for a 25, at least I think a 25 is what i will end up running. Sorry. EBAY is a great place for props if you know exactly what you need, because generally you can't exchange it.

Pete,

I have a 23 Mirage you can try. When you bring your boat up here, leave a little time to experiment with it! Rick

Thanks Rick,
I hope to bring the boat up next friday late afternoon or sat morning. What are your hours on fri. and sat? I did try a 23 mirage plus 69-70 mph and a 23 mirage that was blueprinted by propllers that ran 71 mph. Both of these ran at 4600rpms. The 27 mirage was 68 mph at 4400. Do you have a 25 mirage plus? Also how long will you need the boat to install the cockpit cover, depth gadge, and take a look at the trim tabs? Also what kind of preformance gains can I expect from the K&M kit in top end,low end, and fuel econo? I have one in my truck (and am impresed), Hope for the same results in the boat

pete j
05-19-2003, 04:03 PM
I tryed a 25 mirage + (72 mph @ 4200 rpms,But found out thanks to barnie and a gps that it is a true 66mph) up at ricks the other day and got another 1.5 mph out of the baot and still came out of the whole as good as the 23 pitch. That was with 3 people and a full tank of fuel. Then had a chance to take it out this past sat with me and one other and a half tank of fuel and hit 75.5 mph @ 4300 rpms. This was in a 1-2 ft chop. So I think I must be around 69 gps. Things are looking up! Next step is to maybe lab the prop.and get another 1-2 mph. The more I use this boat the more I love it! Thanks again rick for the great job on the boat and all the help, the beer was a nice added bonus!

Bill
05-19-2003, 06:19 PM
Great numbers Pete, but don't forget you want to be at the top of your RPM range, you are too low at 4300, you want to be at 4600 to 4800 at WOT. I am with you an the labbed prop. When I am finished tinkering with props, I will have my Mirage 25 labbed. Good luck! http://www.checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/thumb.gif

I hear you bill, but with the 23+ I was running 71 mph @ 4600 (by myself) and then tryed the 25+ and was running 75 @ 4300(with 1 other) a nice gain even with the lower rpms. So I decided to keep my 23 and get the 25+, it's to hard to give back the extra speed and when I had the baot at bay veiw barnie thought I should go with the 25+ because the extra speed, better handeling and just as good of whole shot.

pete j
05-20-2003, 02:26 PM
correction, misprint it was 75mph @ 4400rpms.

Bill
05-20-2003, 07:27 PM
Pete, Something you might want to look at is how much you run wide open. To run those low RPM's is very hard on your motor. It is like trying to climb a 20% grade towing a boat in high gear. Honestly, I am rather surprised someone at Rick's told you that was okay. Even though Merc puts a range og 4400-4800 on your motor, If you talk to a certified mechanic or a Merc engineer, they will tell you that you need to run 4700-4800. I know it is hard to give up the speed though...

Thanks Bill, I HAVE HEARD THAT IT IS BETTER TO BE IN THE UPPER END OF THE RPM RANGE ALSO BUT WANTED A PROP TO GIVE ME THE BEST TOP END FOR THE TIMES I WANTED TO JUST GO AND RUN AT WOT, THATS WHY I THOUGHT I WOULD KEEP MY 23+ FOR THE OTHER TIMES. ALSO I AM PLANNING ON LABBING MY 25+, THIS WILL GIVE ME AN ADDED 100 - 150 RPMS. WICH SHOULD PUT ME AROUND THE 4600 RPMS RANGE AND HOPEFULY AN ADDED 2-3 MPH.

Bill
05-23-2003, 03:41 PM
We are going in Aug. I never got my registration for the Poker Run. We have decided to go to Racine for a long weekend on Lake Michigan over fathers day weekend. We are going to play on the lake between Winthrop Harbor and Milwaukee. A frien of ours who just bought a new Velocity might come too. I talked to Mike W from the forum a while back about meeting us in Winthrop harbor, Hopefully I can get in touch with him. Come on out and play on the big pond Pete!

Pete, I have been leaving messages via phone and e-mail for just about a week now and have recieved no response. Kind of strange I think. Anyway... My friend got the Velocity 260, he had to out do me, that is why he got the 260. I can't wait until we can go side by side, hopefully he won't blow me away too bad, although I know I can take him when the water gets rough. http://www.checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/thumb.gif I will get back to you as that weekend gets closer for going to Wisconsin, of course, you are already in Wisconsin.

Take care!
