Well, I we found someone to do the restoration of the eluder hull. So on to the good stuff. It is currently equipped with a 1983 150 black max. We will be using it for skiing and barefooting, but also want to be able to reach a respectable top speed. We deepwater start barefooting which requires a great hole shot and about 42mph top speed. Can someone explain the function of a jackplate and standoff distance and how it can help us to make this a dual purpose boat? We may be replacing this engine with a 175 efi or optimax so any additions (hydralic jack plate, etc.) would need to be appropriate for that also.

Thanks
Dan

I love to ski too, it is important for the boat to pull strong as well as be fast. I would strongly recamend running a four blade stainless. A jackplate is a must to give you versatility (low for power, high for speed) I would stay away from setback other than the jackplate, the purpose of setback is to lighten the bow with leverage and all out speed. You will want plenty of bow pressure to get your nose down quick when skiing. I ended up adding 5 degree negative trim wedges to plant the bow.
Checkmates are a great all around fun boat.
