Long time lurker, very few posts. I have an 86 Eluder with a 175 Merc. When I idle for a long time the motor just idles down and quits. Like it is starved for fuel. I pump the bulb a couple of times, and then it fires up and runs fine. I was thinking that maybe the fuel vent is clogged. I did not think to open the fuel cap the last time to see if there was any vacuum in the tank, because of a storm. Any thoughts? Also, how do you undo the chrome fuel vent? Is it threaded on? Thanks for any insight.

The fuel vent is a fitting. There is a hose attached to the bottom. Unhook the hose and you will see the threaded portion and the nut holding it. There is a screen mesh in there.

It could be a bad primer bulb, or possibly a bad fuel pump on the engine
