My 79 Trimate IV had a soft spot in the floor right where you step down from the bow to the center floor. Its only about five inches around the soft spot and its not really that soft just i can feel it give. should i cut a 10 inch square out and replace it or do you have any suggestions. the owner before has done some floor work to this boat and didnt do that good of a job becuase the bow floor had a section about 2 1/2 feet wide that was replaced and he didnt seal it too good so it was no good. any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I would start in the center of the soft spot and work my way to the outer edge untill you sind good wood. The final cut should be on about a 45 deg angle. By cutting the angle it will allow the new wood to rest on the old wood. Cover the new wood in resen. Then glass the new part in place and blend. Done this a few times and have had no trouble after that. On my trimate I had to replace the whole floor.
