Hi all...My first post and unfortunatly I need a quick answer....
Tomorow...7/30....I am going to look at a 1988 Starflite with xp-200 Evinrude. The boat looks emaculate in the pics but wont know for sure till tomorow. What I need to know from you guys is what I need to look for in this model. Are there any historical structure issues like soft floors or transoms to look for? Any opinions on the XP-200? What type of performance SHOULD I see with this combo? How do they ride? Thanks for anything you all can tell me.
Asking price on a Eagle trailer is $4,500......

Thats a good price.Definetly check out the floor and transom.Although they aren't real problem areas in these boats,it may have have been driven hard and not covered properly and then the floors rot out.Give the engine a compression check, and if possilble take it out for a good run and see how it behaves.

the boat has full covers included so I have my fingers crossed that it has kept the insides nice and dry.

Make sure to check steering cable for stiffness and find out if it's been salt water run - that'll double any repair bill you may encounter. check the gear oil - for filings also find out the oil that has been used in the engine. Make sure it's quality oil not cheap junk. Great boat though, and most checky owners look after their boats.

check around the ledge of ski locker for soft wood, the seat mounts, the wood under the seats, get in crawl to the bow make sure its all dry. look under for any deep gouges. steering.give the trailer the once over. i've owned a 92 starflite 10 yrs now and i can tell you no one runs harder than i. they are rock solid. they are a good big water boat. some small relief cracks near windsheild and with 15in of total setback off the transom i have miminal cracks in the motorwell. the only problems is that of the exposed wood areas. if i was a single man i would have checkmate refurbish it. sell my 2.5 and use the money for a downpayment for a 300x and keep her for another 10 years. you could look for low/ mid 60s
