My brother in law has an old Johnson stinger 75 horse, he has had it for 20 years with no magor problems.
The old Johnson Stinger was a very desireable engine for the small hulls. Be perfect for a little Playmate (offshore style)

i have never seen one of these offshore playmates.
i went to look at this boat and motor. bah ha ha. he wanted 2500 for it. i thought if it was cheap enough i would get it for the motor and set up a lil runner.
'offshore' style playmate:

The stinger was introduced in 1975 in the performance model that put out more than 75hp. It was a tribute to the name of the old johnson V4 race engine called the stinger and super stinger. The Stinger 2 came out as a 3 cylinder model and eventually got up to 75 hp in 1975. Up till 1975 they had large stock gearcases. In 1975 the short shaft stingers were called "stingers" not stinger 2 and had higher port timing and a small diameter gearcase similar to the 2 cylinder models but with a higher gear ratio. These motors are pretty rare in their short shaft model and were pretty quick. The long shaft models were COMPLETELY different from the short shaft models. The evinrude model was called the hustler. These motors were available until about 1988.
The price of $2500 isn't too much if it is a real short (15') shaft stinger. These things will fetch $1500 plus any day of the week. Some good original models can fetch $2000 easy.
