Hello everyone,
I'm looking at doing a Checkmate event at Southbay Marina, our shop location this summer. I'm thinking about August sometime that way I can bring in a 2004 for all to look at, maybe hold it on National Marine Day, I believe this past year that was August 10th. So... we need a name for the event and an agenda. We have two anchorage points just a few miles out, Longtail and Little Tail, and we have an awesome marina, called Wavepointe...www.wavepointe.com we could take a run there, it's about 40 miles by water though.. can be tough for the smaller crafts! Help name our event, we use the name we'll send you a Checkmate sweatshirt! (free) I'm looking at doing a pig roast, band, a day on the boats, anchorage, or run, maybe our own little Checkmate Poker Run... hmmmmm let us know your thoughts and help us name the event! Rick

I've never hosted an event, but I've watched the events posted on Scream and Fly. Things to do:
Post directions to your place from a few different angles and also list local hotels/motels that you recommend and the phone numbers to those places. You should also check with your local govt. officials, let them know what you're planning. That keeps them off your back, and if they're cool, they'll even offer to help out!! Make sure you get the word out all year long about your gathering too. If you make it into some sort of charity event, it'll go over extremely well. The Charity boating events held from contacts at the Scream and Fly board leave wonderful lasting impressions. Good Luck!! I'll try to help you also.

A checkmate event would be a great thing to get started. Look at how successful the other manufactures events are. One suggestion, if it is going to be held in Green Bay, do not do it the weekend of Aug 10th because of the APBA-Offshore race in Milwaukee. One other suggestion is hold it in a spot where those who own smaller Checkmates can show off what they can do. The waters off of Green Bay can go from glass to 6 footers in a heartbeat and could you imagine the new 16 trying to get anywhere in those conditions? Just a thought.

One thing that is sweet about Green Bay. The two anchorage points are only three miles out. If the weather did get rough, we can go down the Fox River instead and do a plan "B" at one of the parks down river. I've spoken to our local Coast Gaurd Aux., DNR, and Sheriffs dept, They are fine with the idea and glad to be involved with it. They are also a big help with the Green Bay Yachting Clubs Poker Run. So.. maybe a Pig roast, a day at the anchorage, some vendor displays.. hmmmmmmmm....

Well...the best bet is probably to post the details of your current set up in the "Ask The Experts" forum. Then Rick from Bayview Marine can help you out, as well as the other members who will no doubt jump in with their words of wisdom too.
You can also post a few pics in the Picture This forum, so we can all, ooh and ahh. If your pics are not currently loaded on the net, email them to me and I'll upload them to the server. /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Here is the email:

Why have only one? Having one location up North sounds great, but it would be hard for some people farther away to make it. How about having one where up north and one down south. I know of a good little rally near Columbia SC that would be a great place. They have the event two or three times a year. There is a marked quarter mile and radar on site. Check it out at WWW.SCLAKES.COM (http://WWW.SCLAKES.COM). The event is called the Outlaws Performance Boat Rally. The May 4 event has good pictures. Last year there were two Checkmates, one from Ohio, and one from Florida. I am sure there will be more next year. /infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

Thunder on the bay sounds like a great name to me. I just joined the board and love it. You can count me in on the party!
Start counting down the time, Aug 2nd is the date for the big event. FYI, for anyone going from out of town like myself, I recommend the holiday inn that is downtown. It is on the Fox River, just a quick boat ride from Geen Bay and Rick's place. I stayed there in Dec., and it was a nice hotel with everything we will need. I just made reservations for the weekend for a hundred bucks a night. I do not think that is bad being on the water and for summer.

Well New to the board and to Checkmate boats. I just sold a Blown 21'Liberator tunnel hull to buy a 1990 GTX 251 Convincor. Wanted to slow down a bit and play on the big lake (I am here in Northern IL just off the Chain O Lakes) I go up to door county 1 or 2 times a year love it up there. never had a boat up there though. I am all for a Summer get together. Will there we a place to sign up or an E-mail reminder?
thanks

All you need to do is e-mail me and let me know your coming.. so I know how much food and brew to buy.. Also looking into bands, etc.. should be a great time.. Nicolet Bay and Chambers Island are the ultimate anchorage spots in Door County.. I'm shooting for Longtail and maybe a trip to Wavepointe... pretty big water, don't want to loose the smaller boats. I've only been advertising the event as a one day deal for Saturday.. Most people from out of town will probably be rolling in on Friday.. I'm a member of the Green Bay Yachting Club, it's right next door to my shop.. I can rent the restaurant part of it for Friday night, anyone interested in a Fish Fry for Friday night? Also, Saturday the show n shine, anchorage, entertainment, maybe Sunday a quick run to Wavepointe (30 miles) lunch and wind it down.. what does everyone think? Rick

You can count me in since I live in the Minneapolis area, It's only a half day drive. I don't know if my 185 Pulse will be making any 80 mph runs on the big water, I will pray for calm seas. There are some less expensive hotels west of Green Bay in Shawano and a nice lake there as well. It is about a 30 minute drive to Greenbay. I hope there Isn't a Packer pre-season game that weekend, because then hotels will be scarce and expensive- If thats the case make reservations early!

Checkmates may not be the fastest boats on the water, but they are the nicest looking!
Yeah Z, that would be a long bike ride for you! http://www.checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/jpshakehead.gif ANyway, just to refresh peoples memories and to get this up for some of the new people on the forum, Rick at Bayview Marine is putting on the first annual Checkmate rendevous in Green Bay Wisconsin the weekend of Aug. 2nd and 3rd. Because of the river and the bay, it will be good for Mates of all sizes! Sounds like at least a couple of the factory people will be there. Maybe they will bring the latest, greatest mate! Maybe Rick can get some more particulars up if he has time... http://www.checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/thumb.gif

I would love to go!! I live in Atlanta but have relatives that live on the Fox River that we were planing a trip to see anyway. They Live in Fox River Grove/Cary IL. How far is that from the party? I could tow my ride but I dont know if it could handle the big Lake. A 78 V-Mate II on Lake michigan? Couple of beers though and I might be catchin some serious air!!
Toast, the best thing about where Bayview Rick is(about 4hours north of your vacation spot)is that is where the Fox River starts. Rick said if it is too rough on the Bay, we can shoot down the river. Either way, he has all boat sizes covered. I have to agree with the berr thought though! http://www.checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/thumb.gif
