you are probably looking at at least 6 grand to repair everything, to me, not worth it...

Bill
Are you incuding a motor in the 6 grand?

I emailed the owners with some questions about the boat...I'll post what I receive.....you never know....someone maybe looking for just this kind of project.....

To redo the interior you're probably looking at 4 G's alone. The seats need replacing...you have to tear out the carpet to repair the floor...and so on...and so on....

IMO, you would get better value looking for a better used boat with a motor.

Email I received from owner

Floor Repair: there are 2 soft spots in the floor,
around the ski locker and 1 at your foot area about
14" in diameter. Carpet is in fair condition, could be
reused but is worn out on the edges of the side
storage area. I used the boat about 50/50 salt/ fresh,
but before me I would say primarily salt. Still has
new Faria guages for OMC, no control box. Seats need
new upholstry. Again, the gelcoat is in good
gondition, but the stripes need new clear coat over
them. Trailer has been totally rebuilt. Pics are 3-6
months old. The boat is solid, I had a V-8 on it, no
movement in the transom.

Here's what you can do. Get a motor you really like (225/250 Johnson HO?) and buy that boat. Offer him $2000 cash on the trailer. Put your motor on the boat, run/beat the snot out of the boat until it's worthless. You aren't out much, you can sell a junk boat and a decent trailer for almost $2,000. After this boat is wrecked (or before it's wrecked for that matter) find a nice used Pulsare to put your 250 Johnson on.
In other words, if you have a motor, $2000 is cheap for a 21' Checkmate to beat on for a few years or more. And if the transom really IS good, then you might consider replacing the floor and seats. These are great go-fast boats for rough water.

No, I did not go to the add and see that it needed a motor too... http://www.checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/sleep.gif

In my honest opinion, considering it has seen most of its life in salt, I waould stay away, far away...

I'm with Bill. I say 2 Grand is spent better elsewhere.

C'mon guys! Salt doesn't really bother fiberglass like it does engines, and $2,000 is CHEAP for a Starflight ON A TRAILER that looks pretty decent. BMac has seen the boat judging by the posts, and he's a pretty good judge of hulls (considering he did the same thing to his Starflight that Gus did to his TriMate). It's at least worth a look. In my book anyway.

6k to fix the floor carpet, seats, and shoot some clear. I must have done something wrong. I will have about $1500 in my boat when I am done. And I took all the wood out.

Gus, you are a rare bird, most people hire out the work... JW, yor are right about salt and fiberglass, but it ruins everything else that is not fiberglass. When I live in Seattle, probably about 50% of the boats lived in salt or saw salt on a regular basis, even the boats that were well taken care of after only a few years looked worse than a 15 year old fresh water boat. On average, we used to nock between 20 and 30% of NADA for salt water boats

Oh, sorry about that. I can see a lot higher price if you had to get the work done by someone.
