Picked my boat up today at the mechanic(after a month)And they had no interest in fixing it.Measured the resistance of the stator leads and they should be 5400-6200 ohms.I had one pair measure 8000-10000 ohms.Would any outboard expert agree that is bad.The first time I measured that pair it read 10000 but everytime after that was closer to 8000 ohms.Motor doesn't run very well after it warms up.Idles great, revs fine in neutral and starts like it should.Have not tried to start it since I got it back so I am not sure if they screwed anything up but I know they didn't fix anything.I am going to put it in the water tomorrow to see how bad off I am......

I can't remember what motor you have on your boat. If its a merc, depending on the size, but regaurdless of size the highest reading is 4650 ohms with a 16 amp stator.
The highest for a 40 amp stator is 4200 ohms.
If its a merc, let me know the year and size and I can look the information up for you.

The motor is a 85 merc inline 6 115hp,the book says 5400-6200 ohms. Two pairs of wires are right on,third set read 10000 on the first measurement and about 8000 every time after that.Having problems on acceleration after engine warms up.It starts, idles and revs up in neutral fine all the time(cold or hot).Anyone familiar with these stator measurements to make an educated guess.also one reading to ground readsabout 80 ohms instead of 125-175......

I did the resistance checks on the trigger plate and they were correct.the ignition coil tests were also correct. What does the stator do,It appears to do the job of recharging the battery but anything else? Most of the leads go to the switch boxes so it must have something to do with tht also.

I was going to suggest looking into the switch boxes because I've had experiences that are similar to yours but Ive read the rest of your posts and that doesnt seem it...
Hope you get it fixed

Took the boat out this morning to see how bad off I was after the mechanic had it for a month.First the new primer bulb would't suck gas out of the tank, got that fixed in about an hour.Got down to the lake and the boat started fine, idled ok and took off like a scalded dog.Ran around for a minute or two and all seemed fine.I was running across the lake and heard what sounded like something metal rattling around under the top cowling and the motor sounded terrible.Took it back to the ramp lifted off the top cowling and after starting it a couple of times looking for something amiss I found the flywheel not and washer missing which caused the flywheel to be loose. My wonderful mechanic did not tighten the nut when he got done.I belive it didn't hurt anything so I am going back to the mechanic tomorrow and give him a piece of my mind. Not having a lot of fun with this boat yet.....
