Hi all!! I just found out that my motor runs!! I bought it sight unseen and not knowing if it even ran. My question is this...I need help picking a prop for it. It is a 86 starliner (starflight Hull) with Johnson 175. Are torque-shifts any good? Otherwise I am looking for a ski prop and a speed prop. All suggestions greatly appreciated!!! Than you!!!

For Speed you'll probably want a three blade. If you want to get a few more mph you may want to get it labbed.

For skiing, a four or five blade will give you a better hole shot, but will lower your top speed a bit.

CheckmateOhio you might want to check out powerteh for a 4 blade ski prop, I have one and you will be amazed on how the hole shot is, the top end is good. Not great, but good. For top end you will want a three blade, you might want to try a raker,They are pretty fast, and if you find any other props that work for blazing top end speed please let me know. As for the shift props I don't like them, some people tell you they work and others say no. Heres my run in's with them, your grabing and slipping all the time, because that how the prop shifts, it needs to slip or it won't change the pitch, and all the hooking up after the slipping is putting alot of strain on the shaft and seal, bearings, and the motor.Plus you will spend most of your summer dialing it in http://www.checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/eyes.gif. Just my 2 cents on the matter.Good luck! http://www.checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/thumb.gif

The great prop question, I wan't great holeshot and blazing top end. With one prop. Very hard to do. Its all a compramise. I have tryed a bunch of props on my tri-mate. Cleaver, choppers, raker, lasers, you name it, its been on the back.
For Checkmates, sternlifting props are out, also surfacing props. Our boats need one thing and that bow lift. THe perfect set up is boat out of the water and doing it with zero trim.
Thats the perfect world, everything else is a compramise.
I ran a 4 blade, made the boat handle like poo. switched to a laser 2 great prop, holeshot and topend. Is it the best top end prop. Nope. So I guess the point I am trying to make is this, try all the props you can get your hands on, and you deside.
