i had to log in after a normal computer shutdown and i had to download a file named ubb.txt
it's a normal note padfile with the text:
cfrm.show="gs_desc_forum_list_5576028561,gs_desc_forum_list_3 676024561,gs_desc_forum_list_9866028561,gs_intro_c frm";

what is this?

after posting above i did close the internet explorer and after start up i had to log on again. the site did not repond to my ip adress

Hey Guys,

I did some investigating. I discovered that for my connection, there is a problem with the internet backbone in the Chicago area. I ran a trace route and it times out in the Chicago area. I suspect it may be the same for you Z.

It's not a board related issue, at least I don't think it is.

You could always try clearing out your cache and cookies, it's a pain I know, but it may clear some things up.

I deleted my cookies and it still has the problem with the main page. Nothing to do with the forums, its just the welcome page. Very strange.

i run xp.. sometimes i have no lines and different colours to mark fields in the website, only text. i tried from an other computer at my office but the same problem..

I run XP as well. I can't go directly to the home page, but if I jump into the forums first, then click the "Entrance" page at the top if shows up fine. Its a very strange problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Try this Z.

Go to the command prompt.

That is where you go out to the black screen to the C: prompt in ms dos.

Type in.... tracert www.checkmate-boat.com (http://www.checkmate-boat.com) and hit enter.

That will do a trace from your home to the server in Seattle. If it gets there with out timing out, I'll be surprised. Mine stops in Chicago.

Let me know how you make out.

Figured as much.

That means you are having trouble accessing the server that this board is hosted on. So you can expect that from time to time you'll get the page not found message.

I emailed sympatico a few days ago. They are supposed to respond within 48 hours, but of course they haven't. Mind you they did erroneously find the time to send my a telephone message telling me my internet service payment is in arrears and that I should contact them immediately or they might have to cut me off. Strangely enough, I have a receipt for the payment they automatically debited from the credit card and it was dated December 03. Hmmmm....perhaps I should send them a message and let them know if they don't fix their service I'll be cutting them off. http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Its strange... A few minutes ago I got the page not found for this page and another other around here.
Also, when I can get back in, I get the rough outline of the entrance page, but no images show up, just text... (such as the Enter Button)
Very strange. I should get somebody with a different 'net type to try and trace the server and see what happens!

Yeah, it's because you are probably getting some of the files and not others. There is some kind of problem, bottleneck, or whatever in Chicago.

but the answer is under hop 8 to new york aorta.net
i'm really suprised with the tracing thing...

aorta means the cable network to centre of internet?
