Is that the best mag for our interests? Every time I pick up one of theose magazines I swear, all I ever see is new boat reviews and multi million dollar race team boats. Do they ever include how to's for older models etc.. sort of like Hot Rod or Car Craft?? If not, maybe we should start a magazine here!

probably not , but i have no idea what is the best. i'm downto hot boat and poker runs america , almost exclusively for the pictures of painted boats that i may be able to steal an idea to change the graphics on mine.

No they dont advertize in it .The mag is just doing a build up of a checkmate. This issue has a comparoson of three boats fitted with the new ilmor viper V10 engines.A lot of grass roots drag racers stuff and readers rides hands on how too stuff. They just call it family and performance from what ive seen which has just been two issues

Maybe Checkmate likes to have it's products be a little exclusive . If they mass produced , they would be more like Baja . I sure love mine ! :surf:
I subscribe to : Trailer Boats , Hot Boat ,and Powerboat magazines .

well , what i'm really wondering is do they advertise ? if so where ? i know they don't have an advertising budget like fountain or bajaliner , but it's a competitive world out there. lots of people making a purchase today are influenced by how a product is marketed to them or at least what they learn about it researching the internet. when i surf some marine sites checkmate is more often than not, missing from the links , why? we ,here know and admire the brand , however , when most of us refer to our new boat , we are referring to one , previously owned . i don't see checkmate ever becomming a mass marketed boat, diluting the brand if you will . but if i was a checkmate dealer i wonder how i would be expected to sell a checkmate to someone who may think that checkmate is an off brand and baja or whatever is the way to go because of the exposure they get. if i'm out of line here , i apoligize . but if i can't ask this here , i can't ask it anywhere ....

I agree with you Bob.I know things are tough out there in the boating market nowadays.A lot of Companys have been bought out or are out of business.I'm sure there are a few reasons why you don't see em promoted much.Hey,Wellcraft doesn't even build Scarabs anymore. That shows how tough it is out there.

I am sure that they have their reasons. In fact, we had this discussion a few months ago and it got pretty heated. If Checkmate had a huge budget we would hear about them more. Instead, they spend their money on building great boats and let the reputation speak for itself. It costs HUGE money to get advertisements.

i just placed an order with mike for some parts for a friend and i. everytime i talk to him , i'm blown away with his accessibility, and overall knowlege of the product ,both current and non current. i am proud to own "his product". i wish there was something i could do for checkmate, to return the favor if that makes any sense. so going back to my original question re advertising , i appreciate what conventional advertising might cost . but i wonder about getting "linked" with more companies via the internet . is this possible ? is this more cost effective for a small company? chris ,is this anything that you might deal with in getting news of this site out there ? do we have anyone that really understands how this game is played ?

LEEDO IS CORRECT, I BELIEVE THERE WAS A DISCUSSION REGARDING ADVERTISING AND KIP RESPONDED. THEY ARE A SMALL FAMILY OWNED BUSINESS AND MAGAZINE ADVERTISING IS VERY EXPENSIVE. IT'S THE PRODUCT ITSELF THAT SELLS AND THE FANATICS LIKE US THAT KEEP SHOWING THEM OFF!!! SOMETIMES WORD OF MOUTH IS THE BEST ADVERTISING!! http://checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/thumb.gif

jupiter / leedo , not disagreeing with you at all. if this is how business is done then so be it. as for word of mouth and showing off . i am doing my part. just received a major compliment from a cigarette top gun owner on another site that saw my boat yesterday for the first time ,as well as cigarette owners in the past that stopped what they were doing to admire "risenshine". i appreciate that respect from people that have the means to buy anything they want.

It may be alot like harley davidson, you dont see nearly as much advertising for them as you do the "jap" bikes people that buy them are enthusiasts they research them and find the dealerships or theparties selling them. I think checkmate owners are the same we research out our desired boat , find the dealer and make our purshases, we know we are buying a top of the line boat, they are the best in my small mind, word of mouth is alot, once you own one you dont want anything else and you tell and impress everyone you know and all who see it. http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I like it, that would be pretty cool, although sometimes the more advertising you do it negativly effects the price of your used item{ if its harder to find it brings more money availability effects price alot} :thumb:

Look at the price of used Harley's they hold their resale VERY well, the same holds true for checkmates in my part of the country.
