The guy coming sat is me. And I talked him down to 1200. Is the trailer solid enough to make a 4 hour trip? How was the driver side of the boat? I think with a good buff job and refinishing the wood and interior it should do fine for a while. http://www.checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/xxrotflmao.gif

1200 sounds good to me.
Hell it's the price of Gas for a few months!
Take a grease gun with you if you can, and grease those bearings before you start the drive. A spare tire would be ideal too! If you can, takes lots of pics, and we'll do a little story thread, and as you clean her up we'll post the pics.
That is.....if you get it. http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Oh and thanks BB for checking it out for me. http://www.checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/thumb.gif Started buffing it out today the silver looks great with just the fast action compound.I cant wait to see it after the whole process.I'm using race glaze compounds on it . It's a three step process bill taught me. Worked great on the trimate and is working extreemly well on this project. The black has come back and it is usually the hardest color to buff out as it absorbs all the sun light it gets and bake's dry but it shines nice and will look like new.Does anybody know how to refinish teak wood? Or have any info on omc stringer drives? Mine say's hi-perf on it.Any ideas? Well I'll be working on it all day christmas eve and I'll take some more pics.I'll get these pics up as soon as posible. http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif CHECKMATE'S RULE http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Here is the teak how to.
1, remove it if you can. Not needed but it makes it easy.
2, Sand all the old stuff of, you need to be down to bare wood
3, Get some miniral Spirit’s and spar varnish
4, For the 1st coat you will want to mix the varnish and the miniral spirit's at a 75/25 mix, 25% varnish coat the wood. this will allow the varnish to soak into the wood. do this step twice.
5, next about a 50/50 mix and coat.
6, Light sand between each coat. This will remove any imperfection, IE drips or runs.
7, After the 50/50 is layed down and sanded with 400 grit start applying the spar varnish. Be sure to sand between coats to remove any runs or bubbles.
It takes about 3 light coats and the part will look like glass.
If you want a more toned down finish, you can stop at any point after the 2 coats of 75/25.
Good luck.
There is other stuff on the market for teak, but I have found few that work well. Most will look good for a bit but don't last.
We reconditioned all the teak on my dads sail boat. We used to above and came out real nice. There was some that we did not what the shine and stopped after the 1st few coats. Then there where some we made like glass. That was 5 years ago and it still looks good.

Yea I went from 52 or so at full throttle to 59 or so at full throttle with very little loss in the hole shot. She reved to 4k with the smaller prop and now is at 3850.Shouldn't a 350 turn 4500 or so.It'll only hit 4000 reving it in neutral. seems low.
Eriktheviking
04-11-2004, 12:50 PM
First thing I'd check is the tach.Is it accurate? A lot of them aren't.A 350 shouldn't have any problem hitting 5000 rpm.But I think the redline is 4800.If its accurate ,your prop is bogging the engine. http://checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/jpshakehead.gifThats hard on an engine.I'd drop the pitch size to a 20 or 21 and see how it responds.Good luck

Should i put new points in it and tune it up it seems to run fine. Not shure where to look first. http://checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/jpshakehead.gif
Eriktheviking
04-11-2004, 10:23 PM
Okay,Heres a few ideas,is the throttle cable really giving you full throttle? Are the secondary butterflies opening? A tune up is certainly a good idea. New points could really make the difference and they must be dwelled properly. That can make a huge difference on how it runs.I tell ya 59 mph really is about what the set up is good for.I'd also check to see if the timing chain is stretched.CHECKMATE'S ,MOPARS and HARLEY'S GOTA LOVE EM http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Aren't boats FUN! http://checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/brickwall.gifHere is another possibility (guess). There could be a bad bearing in the drive. It could create a lot of drag with the revs go up.Does it seem like the engine is really working hard? http://checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/brickwall.gifWell it revs up to red line in neutral so that rule's out the intermediat housing and the upper gear set so I guess I should pull the lower unit off and appart and check it out. There was no metal in the fluids when I changed them. That at least is a good sign.I have to get this resolved I got spanked by a baahjunk yesterday. It's got a mechanical advance and it goes up to 35 deg at 3grand so it's working.I have an idea though. With the higher output of the motor the stock thru prop exhaust could be choking it out not letting it breath. http://checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/brickwall.gif

I wish I knew. Those guys are good, I've been trying to figure out how the fold it around boxes and and things like that.
DONCONVINCER
09-13-2004, 10:08 AM
I bought my carpet at Home Depo. I put the seam at the step up going up to the bow, that gave me a full piece in the main area.(Thats where it was from the factory) I covered the seat mount boxes with a wrap around and put the seam in the center of the front. When I installed the main section I centered the carpet on the floor then cut out the seat boxes. I made sure the cuts around the seat boxes were real tight. When I installed the carpet on the seat boxes it hid the edges on the floor.
The carpet I got looks just like what was in the boat originaly, except in gray not black. It's been in my boat for 3 seasons and is holding up good.
bdusted440
09-15-2004, 11:32 PM
http://checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/brickwall.gif I started pulling mine out .It is seamed at the sides. There is one piece down the middle and a seperate piece up the sides the whole length of the boat. This I can duplicate.( I hope ) LOL. The interior is out they use a-lot of wood that is for sure. All the seat boxes are replaced and screwed together with stainles screws insted of staples. The seat bottoms are done.I'm cutting new wood for the side boards now. Then its time to put it all together depending how the floor looks underneeth the main carpet section.well thats all for now and thanks for you're input don and coophttp://checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/thumb.gif

When I did the backer panels behind the seat back in the bow I made openings for ski storage. I store my skis between the hull sides and the seat backs, I get 2 soloms on one side and a combo set on the other.
bdusted440
09-27-2004, 11:23 PM
http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gifI have ski storage in the floor of mine so i'm gona leave that but I am going to enlarge the door opening on the bow cover door so I can get tubes and such in a-lot easier. And the floor storage for anchors needs to have a bigger opening too. Not much bigger but about an inch all the also need to find someplace that sell's teak plywood for the walkthru section of the console. http://checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/brickwall.gifAnybody have any ideas?

Wow! That's going to be a tall order!! Let me look into the drive for you, i'm sure the place i used to work at has a complete 1.5:1 used. I think finding a used transom assy will be a tough search for you - good luck.

Pretty sure it would, i don't think the T/A cares what engine hooks up to it. Y-pipe should be the same. Only thing to watch for is if that T/A was designed to have the remote gear oil monitor or not. When i look up alpha drive components on MIDAS, it never specifies what engine the components go with, so, i think you'll be good.
bdusted440
10-30-2004, 04:19 PM
Do I want the remote moniter or not?
Chris E
10-30-2004, 06:00 PM
Don't think it really matters, it's the newer design and it will tell you quickly that there is a leak (the oil slick behind the boat is also a good indicator). You'll have to match up the drive to the T/A though. If you have a remote T/A, then i would put a remote equipped drive on it and vice versa.
bdusted440
11-06-2004, 10:00 PM
Well I have done some research and a alpha drive wont hold up to the hp and tourqe that the 406 will put out. Or so I am told by alot of people. So I am probably going to byte the bullit and go bravo one. http://checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/brickwall.gifAnd coop is going to gell the boat for me .I hope he picks up the mustang before it snows.LOLI'll keep you guy's posted.

What Happened ???? they having trouble with there shooter you shouldnt be sanding if they sprayed it. OC gel will not spray as smooth as other paint it has to be sanded. It is not realy paint it is resin, its not realy designed to be sprayed like that, it was meant to be used inside of a mold. It also cures it does not dry. And in order to trick it into cureing outside of a mold you have to add surfaceing agent. This is parafin wax disolved into styrene monomer. Then as the styrene evaporates from the surface of the sprayed gelcoat it leaves behind the wax and it forms a layer over the gel. This the is removed by sanding and buffing.
