funny story (i thought it was). We sold a 26' Sea Ray bowrider to a guy who ran it for about 2 weeks, called us and said that the engine alarm went off and he was in georgian bay - so he drove it back till the engine quit. We picked up the and delivered it to the marina, tried to open the electric hatch - no worky. we could here the motor run but it wouldn't lift. so the mechanic finnaly hooked the sundeck up to the forklift so he could get the deck open. what we had was a broken lift and a seized engine.

the lift was not mounted in the right spot leaving too much travel in it - it pulled the screws out of the floor mount and started banging around the engine compartment, breaking the serpentine belt which cut the cooling off to the engine and cooked the motor.

the funny part? sea ray cut us a check for around 16K for the warranty repair cuz we couldn't get just an engine from merc, we had to get a complete package (engine, drive, transom plate), plus all the repair work to the boat. since we only needed an engine, we got the other goodies for free.

so the moral of this story, is put the hatch in, make sure it bottoms out before it can pull the screws out of the lower mounting plate.

by the way, i believe "land and sea" sells them in the US.
