View Full Version : Rev limit on stock 87 454 Magnum?

Okay big block guys what kind of RPM's can these motors handle? http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif The red line is 4800. When do rods start blowing thru the pan? I'd like to build it up but don't know how far I can go.I'd like to hear about your experiences.

Not sure on your motor as all big blocks are different, I spin a 440 mopar to 6500. AS for the bottom end, well you will run out of cam long before the bottom comes apart.

I've got a couple 440's myself, 1970 440 6 pack 4spd. Superbird(all apart),68 Coronet R/T Convert. 440 4spd.also a 340 70 Cuda'(wife's ride). I was told buy Mike at Checkmate that the 87 was a good year for that engine. Four bolt mains??

Nice cars to have, very cool about the 4 bolt mains, should be stout. Got to love the wing cars.
