View Full Version : Bottom design on the 2100 Pulsare
I just came back from the TO boat show. Had a good look at the bottom of the 2100 Pulsare they had there on display, its hull is quite bit different than my 1998 hull. The pad on the bottom is very short in height and rounded and runs almost the length of the boat? My hull has flat ski type pad about 3/4 of an inch in height it is wider and runs up from the transom about 6-7 feet then blends into the hull? Anyone know when and why the changed the hull. Maybe Kip can shed some light on this for me.
I am really curious as I bought a new Heritage trailer for my boat got rid of the roller trailer. But when the trailer arrived it didn't fit may boat, the 2 center bunks were too close together and the pad sat on the bunks. I refused the trailer. I said they made a mistake. They said they make lots of trailers for that boat and they have not had any problem. Anyway they changed the bunks and offset them form the pad while not exactly perfect it is OK. After seeing the boat at the show I walked over the Heritage distributor and apologized for my calling them names when the boat didn't fit.
My '95 had the flat pad, about 3/4" high with rounded corners too. Yours must still be the original that I'm familiar with. What's up Kip? We want details!! http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

Was it a 21' Pulsare?
Could it have been a 21' Pulse? I didn't think they boys had changed anything around on the 21' Pulsare hull.

Here is a pic of SCT's New Pulsare.
Does this look like your old one JW?

The reverse chines and the turned-down lifting strakes are exactly the same, but this picture isn't good enough to carefully inspect the pad.........

Guys,
My Pulsare was a 2000 and looked/looks just like SCT's. The only thing, possibly, is the pad in SCT's photo LOOKS narrower than mine was. Could be deceiving because of photo angle, though.

Sometimes I read way too far into things, but Heritage said they make lots of trailers for the Pulsare? I thought most Checkmates came on C-Hawks when brand new. Besides, how many Pulsares does Checkmate make in a year - 20 or 30???

We've never changed the bottom on the Pulsare 2100.
Ok So did I make a mistake was that a Pulse at the TO boat show I don't think so and there is no way in the world that the bottom is the same as my 1998 Pulsare. If I have to I will go back and take a picture of it. Also why did the trailer from Heritage not fit my 1998 not once but twice the first trailer they sent did not have a swing tongue on it so I wouldn't take we measured it it too would not fit my boat.
Kip if that is a Pulsare at the Toronto boat show the bottom is different.
Craig when I got my boat used it was on a crappy easyloader roller trailer I sold it and looked at C-Hawk, Eagle and Heritage I picked Heritage based on price and delivery.
Anybody going to the TO show can see the first trailer without the swing tongue they sent me it is on display in the Heritage booth just up the isle form the New Ark Checkmate display it is red and is sitting on top of a tandem Baja trailer.
TCAT, that would be great if you could take a couple pictures (side of boat and bottom of boat) so we could see what you saw. And for trailers, the C-Hawk really is the best, as they're located right in Bucyrus down the road from Checkmate, and the trailer REALLY fits well......

TCAT,
I think Heritage trailers are decent trailers. I'm just trying to figure out this bottom difference thing. I wouldn't think Heritage would be as accustomed to fitting Pulsares to their trailers as C-Hawk, since most are on C-Hawk trailers and there really isn't that many Pulsares built each year.
BTW: C-Hawks are worth the $$$.

Hi Craig
I have the Heritage now it is a really nice trailer. Swing Tongue, LED lights, color matched powder coat paint, disk brakes with Torsion axles no springs, clear coated chrome wheels, aluminum checker plate. I could have ordered a C-Hawk but I had my trailer sold and the delivery on the C-Hawk was too long. Lake and trail would have sold me the trailer under thier Pulsare but it was black and had no swing tongue or brakes. Not that I need the brakes they are just nice to have when you need that extra stopping power.
I am going back to the TO boat show at noon just to take a picture of the bottom of the Pulsare on display it is not even close to my boat. I took some pictures of the bottom of my boat but because of the trailer bunks you cannot see the profile of the pad.
Hey SCT can you see the pad on your boat on the trailer. If so please post a picture of it.
OK I went back to the show http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Just to prove to you that I am not crazy
Here are the pictures of my 1998 and the 2005 at the show. JW is this what yours looked like?
SCT yours looks like the 2005 at the show in these pictures.

My pad runs up about 4 feet then blends into a narrower pad that runs up the same distance as the 2005?
Beacuse it is on the trailer I cannot get a picture of it.
Hey Kip is this factory this way or did somebody modify it?
Thanks for your input on this.
Craig
Now you can see why the trailer did not fit.
Here are some pictures of the trailer at the TO boat show that was sent for me but the swing tongue was missing it fits the 2005 perfectly

TCAT,
My 2000 Pulsare pad looked the same as the 2005 in your photos and SCT's. I also remember measuring mine. Definitely was only 6" wide. Maybe someone modified yours. You didn't happed to buy it from a Hydrostream or Allison guy did ya? Those guys are use to big fat pads. Then they get into a Checkmate with a small pad and they can't balance it.
-Craig
There's no doubt about it TCAT. The original owner modified your pad! I have always thought the 6" wide pad of the stock Checkmates were too narrow for top speed, and wished the factory widened the pad. Causes a harsher ride, but higher top speed. So your previous owner thinks the same way I do, and he did something about it! He modified your pad. As long as it's straight and true, you've got (in my opinion) an 'improved' Pulsare.
When he first put this boat up for sale years ago, I talked to him about it on the phone. I knew of the interior changes he made in the bow area, but I don't remember talking to him about the bottom changes. Maybe he made those later. What you should do at this point is CAREFULLY inspect the bottom of your boat often, to make sure the pad widening job remains solid and intact.
Thanks for the input JW. That really explains the trailer not fitting issue.
It also would explain why I am getting speeds on this boat that other people say are BS.
The modification was done by someone who was very good with fiberglass and Gel coat and new a lot about boats. I had checked the bottom with a straight edge and it is perfect. It is so good it looks like factory. There are no bad edges and the gel matches perfectly. There was a scratch or gouge in it that I have fixed but otherwise perfect.
I bought a Sunstream covered hydraulic boat lift at the boat show so it will be kept out of the water when it is not being used. It will also be easy to inspect that way.
I cannot get a picture of the modification on the trailer but I will take one and post it in the spring when the boat is on the lift.
Thanks to everyone for their input and now I finally know why the trailer didn’t fit.
Can’t wait to try my newly Boger modified 27” Tempest maybe I can see 80MPH on this boat.

I agree, who ever did the pad was good, real good. Kind of glad I went with a 10" pad on mine.
Bringing this back to the top because I talked to Z06 today, and he's going to ask the original owner if he knows anything about the modified pad. There was other owners in between Chris Mulvaghs and TCAT.
It might have been my buddy Chris http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif He was also played around with his Hydrostream, he made the tunnels deeper. He is real good with this stuff. If it was him, he'll like all your comments! http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Chris Mulvagh did do the hull modification on your boat. For those who do not know, Chris Mulvagh is my good friend who owns the Hydrostream in Signature and Avator http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Hi I am sure it was Chris the guy I bought the boat from was running a 23 High Five on it. :shakehead: I don't think he did anything on the boat other than replace the power head when it blew.
Do you know this Chris' last name? Was it the owner after Chris Mulvagh, or was there another one?
