Has anyone actually installed a thru hull exhaust in their boat. How low on the transom can you go? I'm a little nervous of cutting 3"-4" holes in my boat! I have clearance issues with the steering and the transom is not very high.

You do have clearance issues. If the exhaust can't go straight back, then you'll have to angle them down. The factory location on the transom is just touching the water line. And you'll have to measure and see if there is room for the 4" piping. You may have to go with 3".You will have to remove the "Y" pipe also. The quick way to do that is cut it with a zip saw, then seal up the ends.Or pull the motor!

One of my buddy's has a late 80's boat with the 350 mag, and it's factory with the 3" exhaust, barely above the water line. Sounds great!

Oh, and you don't have to remove the Y pipe if you have room to route the exhaust with the Y in place. My '95 Persuader had thru transom (4") and the Y pipe was still there. When I wanted it quiet, I just used the Y pipe. Make sure you seal the open ends of the Y pipe when not using it though!! I used a piece of heavy rubber, with stainless steel hose clamps holding the rubber pieces over the open end of the Y sealing it off.

If I have to I can pull the motor, it only takes me about an hour and I have to replace the lower shift cable. Plus taving out the "y" will save me some weight.
