It's time for us to start thinking about the 2006 Checkmate Poker Run/Regatta. We are considering having the regatta at Lyman Harbor again next year in July. Because of the feedback we got from the last poker run, we are thinking about changing the course for the run. We will try to make the course longer next year so that everyone has the opportunity to see more of Lake Erie. One thing we do need to get a better handle on is who is interested in attending so we can get a total number of people. If you are interested, please post your interest to this site. More information will be posted as it is available. http://checkmate-boats.com/graemlins/lol.gif

COUNT JEFF AND THE SUZI IN AGIAN,
IS THERE ANY INTREST IN THE DEEP-V GUYS ON TAKING A DAY TRIP OVER TO PUT-IN BAY ISLAND. ITS APX. 14 MILES FROM LYMAN MARINE. NEVER REALLY OUT OF SIGHT OF LAND. MAYBE THE FRIDAY BEFORE OR SUNDAY AFTER ?
I COULD LOOK INTO WHAT IT TAKES TO RESERVE SOME DOCK SPACE AT 1 OF THE PRIVATE MARINAS FOR FRIDAY. THE PULIC DOCKS ARE USALLY FULL OR NEAR FULL BY NOONISH ON FRIDAY.ON SUNDAY IT WOULDN'T BE A PROBLEM TO GET DOCKAGE AT THE PUBLIC DOCK AFTER NOON.
JUST THROWING OUT SOME IDEALS. CNC WIZARD WHERE ARE U !!!!!!!!

I DEFINITELY want to know and attend since it was in my backyard last year! I found out too late to get out of work last year(gotta pay to play). I quite possibly could help organize w/ enough notice(area connections).
Let me know what ya'll come up with and I'll do anything I can. I'd love to spend some OH north coast time w/ some other 'Mate folks!

Pic 2 same pic only from bi-plane. sunday afternoon the marina was clearing out.
pic 3 Is looking back at the momument and giving a perspective on how close all this fun is. The island to the rear left is KELLYS ISLAND and to the rear right is the mainland MARBLEHEAD and if you look hard you can see SANDUSKY BAY behind that.

245 Is ABSOLUTELY correct about the island. There are multiple attractions for everyone. Friday, Saturday and early Sunday it's pretty packed with a "Mardi Gras" party atmosphere. But, Sunday afternoons the pace slows dramatically and the locals take over things. If anyone does'nt want to go on their own rig, there are 2 ferrys exclusive to P-I-B. The Jet Express out of Port Clinton, OH. and the Miller Ferry from Catawba Island which is a northen point on the mainland. Miller is cheaper, but the Express is faster. Accomodations are hard to come by on the Island, but plentiful all areas of the mainland. The whole north coast of OH. is loaded with torist oriented activities during the season. Lots of fun to be had , regardless of what you're into. When I'm not earning $, I'm up in the area. Most defintely worth checking out! http://www.checkmate-boats.com/graemlins/thumb.gifOriginally posted by merc245:

If things are delayed with the adoption we will be there like last year in the Starliner, but it all depends on how things go and timing. We will be disappointed for sure if we can't come, it was one of the best boating events we've been to, even though the weather wasn't the best.

World's largest swim up bar going in at P-I-B
Construction has begun on the world's largest swim up bar between The Islander Inn & Grand Islander Hotel at Put-in-Bay.
The complex, called SPLASH!, will have more than 110 seats in the water, encompass over 9,000 square feet and will feature a second floor entertainment deck. The deck is surrounded by the pool below and is visible to everyone in the water.
Construction is being done by Janotta & Herner of Monroeville, with the complex slated to open May 25 of this year.

Sounds like a good time, however I do have one concern. Being from that area and familiar with the water conditions on the lake, what are you going to do with the smaller "river rocket" Checkmates that show up for the poker run? That lake can get pretty rough even on a nice day.

An update on the poker run: One of the card stops will be at the Casino Bar on Kelley's Island. For those who wish to, there will be free time to visit the island. We would like all Checkmates, small and large, to attend. We have made the run to accommodate all size boats. All boats have the option to stay in the bay, take their boat to Kelley's Island, or ride with someone else. No matter what you choose, you will still receive your card for the poker hand. We have currently sent out approx. 50 packets to prospective participants. There is a reduction in the registration price if returned early. If you would like to attend, please e-mail your name and address to TracyMlls@cs.com and we will send you a packet. Checkmate Boats is planning on having another open house the Friday before the poker run. We are still looking for additional sponsors so if you, or anyone you know, would like to be a sponsor please e-mail us. If you have any questions about the poker run, please send us an e-mail.

If you are interested in attending, please e-mail us at TracyMlls@cs.com and we will make sure to send you a packet. For some of you who have already received your packet you may have noticed that we put the incorrect date on the information sheet. The correct date of the poker run is Saturday, July 15. There is a price break on the entry fee if you send in your registration and entry fee by May 15th; so hurry and get your registration and entry fee in so that you can take advantage of the price break!

Last year the poker run got off at around 10:00 AM. The rain delayed us a little bit. Then, at the lunch stop, we waited for the skies to clear, and it was done around 4:00PM.
Friday we toured the factory. This was a good opportunity to meet others that were participating in the run. This year we plan on leaving Thursday afternoon, so that we can spend a little more time at the factory.

With a 28zt you could get over to Put-In-Bay in 20-30 minutes at a easy pace. Its more of an adult theme park.
I took the starflite over to P-I-B the day after last year and spent the nite at B & B and came back on monday.
Kellys Island is closer to the Lymans and Sandusky Bay. Its more laid back slower pace. There is a marina and restraint.

It's a very short distance across the mouth of the bay to Cedar Point's marina. It probably only would take 6-7 minutes on the water from Lyman. Some of the more affordable lodging is a drive from either Lyman or CP. Route 250 off of route 2 areas have several that are generally reasonably priced. Great Wolf Lodge is VERY pricey for the amenities provided, but it's also a "niche" type of resort. I didn't get my moneys worth when I stayed for the wifey's seminar; that's for sure! If you're willing to travel a bit Port Clinton has some pretty good lodging also (it's set up for ferry riders to Put-in-bay). Good Luck!

Hey BUKK, Cedar point has 1/2 day passes you can purchase at around $25. Enter the park after 6 ish walk about enjoy a few rides until 11 ish. That would leave another the day to explore OHIO's northern coast.Heres what would be my plans! Thurs morn launch at Sandusky city lauch its huge with parking for trucks pulling 30 ft trailors.Find my way over to P-I-B by noonish or by at least 2 pm.Make sure to hit the the Roundhouse bar for the afternoon party. After that your on your own. Friday morning decide if you want to do a 2nd nite at the bay knowing its only going to get FREAKIER. Or just relax thru Friday morning recoop a bit and head back towards sandusky bay and hit cedar point's marina in middle of the afternoon apx 3 or 4 ish get cleaned up, grap a bite, hit the park on Friday nite.Come Sat Morning your only 2 miles from lymans fresh as a fiddle.Get to Lymans Enjoy the the run go over to kellys Island during the run. return to lymans marina enjoy the dinner and PARTY the nite away, crash at your slip at lymans sat nite. Come Sunday morn head back to the city ramp apx 5 miles away load up and get going by 11/12 ish Knowing that you've seen and done everything the Northern Coast has to OFFER !!!!!!!!
Thats my 2 cents worth and the wife just agreed,This would be the plan to follow IF we were able to go.BUT I would be afraid the 2nd nite over at P-I- B would not be an option more of a mandatory stay and we'd be racing acrosss erie to lymans com sat morning.

Update regarding the Checkmate Poker Run/Regatta being held on July 15, 2006. All registration packets have been sent out: packets to those that requested them and also to those who attended last year. If you did not receive a registration packet and would like to attend, please e-mail us at TracyMlls@cs.com ASAP. We need to let Lyman Harbor know a count of people who are attending the poker run (for a food count) so please get your registrations in by July 4th or at least e-mail us to let us know you are attending. Thanks!!

Talked to Lyman Harbor this weekend regarding overnight dockage. They are charging $10 a night for overnight dockage. Water and electric are not provided but they do have showers available. You can contact Lyman Harbor directly regarding overnight dockage. Their phone number is (419) 62-LYMAN. (Speak to either Suzi or Christina.) Both Friday night and Saturday night we will have free admission to Jumpin Jupiter (Lyman Harbor nightclub), which will be reserving the upstairs balcony for the poker run participants. Wanted to also remind you about the cookout that Checkmate and C-Hawk Trailers will be sponsoring at Checkmate Performance Boats in Bucyrus, Ohio. Checkmate open house starts at 10:00 a.m. and lunch will be served at noon. Hope to see you there! If you are planning on attending the poker run on Saturday and have not turned in your registration yet, please send us an e-mail and let us know you are attending. Thanks! And everyone pray for good weather on Saturday!

When asking about dockage, you may have spoken to someone other than the special events coordinator at Lyman. She told us this past Saturday that overnight dockage would be $10 per boat per night, so we are going to hold them to that quote. If anyone is charged more than $10 per night, please let us know on Saturday and we will get it rectified. Keep praying for good weather for Saturday!!

We're leaving Thursday night. Plan on being at the factory Friday for lunch. Weather looks like it will be nice. Better than the rain we ran in last year.

Lyman Harbor does not have a ramp.
Last year we launched here. http://www.ci.sandusky.oh.us/recreation/PDF/Boat%20Launch.pdf
We left our trailer at their parking area. Well lit. Last year there was a fishing tournament, so this area was well patrolled.
I'll probably use the same ramp this year. It's close to Lyman Harbor.

Is it too late to get in on the poker run? Cabin in central ny flooded so it needs some time to dry before I can remodel. I need a stress reliever weekend!! What are the costs? Anyone have any suggestions on accomodations?
Coop- If you don't mind riding in my little mate I should have enough room!

I believe that you can register on Saturday morning. It is a good time. Weather looks like it will be nice for the run this year.
Don’t remember the cost, all I know is that we had a great time last year, and have been looking forward to this one for a while.

Leaving tonight around 7:00 PM. Last year we slept on the boat. This year we’re doing the same. It’s a nice facility. Restaurant in nice, supposedly the showers/bathroom are complete. Found it convenient to stay at the marina.

I've set it up so that any registered member can upload the pics from the event to this particular gallery forum.
Make sure that any photos that you attempt to upload are saved as jpg files and are 640 pixels wide or less and less than 160 KB.
Let's see those pics! :)

WOW, what a great time. Finally made it home, (after stopping at the Hard Rock in Cleveland) LOL!! What a blast. Great people, great times, great food, great event. I would like to thank Jon and Dave from C-Hawk trailers for putting this event together. You guys did other great job. Everyone that I spoke with agreed that the last leg to Kelly's Island was a great addition to the run.
dlcss369, glad that you decided to make the event, sorry that you didn't get to finish the run. Next year, plan on attending, and If I have room, you can ride with me.
Great meeting everyone, glad that the weather worked out this year.
Convincor283, wife got some great shots of the floor and water. The tape is as funny as we thought.
