how do i tell if my stringers are in need of replacement without ripping up the floor

If you have a ski locker you can access the two main stringers and bang on them and you'll be able to tell if they are soft. However, if your floor is not soft or rotten then your stringers are probably fine. The floor seems to go before the stringers. If your floor is in really bad shape, chances are the stringers are going to need attention as well. In that case, the floor is going to have to come out anyway.

Mark is right on the money. I wanted to simply replace my floor, b/c of a few soft spots. Yeah right! I discovered that stringers and foam were completely saturated. If your floor, just be prepared to get dirty!
