Polyester resin (commonly called fiberglass resin) is the binding agent for the mat/cloth when laying up fiberglass. It is mixed with a catalyst and then applied. It has a consistancy similar to maple syrup or thick brush-on paint. When used as a sealer, it is typically brushed on.
