Hi, We just purchased a 1981 Checkmate Diplomat. The boat has been in a garage for a few years collecting dust, durt and mildew.

Do any of you Checkmate fanatics have any suggestions or favorite products to use to restore this awesome boat.

We need to clean the seats and put some kind of protectant on them. We will also need to cleant he fiberglass and make it shine like new.

Thanks

Welcome to the board. I am sure there will be someone along to help. It has been to long since I had my boat in the water to have a good answer.

http://checkmate-boats.com/graemlins/welcome.gifAnn, I have only used "Dupont heavy duty rubbing compound" then finish coat with "Heller Glanz" restorer wax. I found the "Heller Glanz" on the net while looking for the best rated restorer waxes for fiberglass. I'm sure there are many other good products but this one worked good for me. The end result will depend on how much time and effort you are willing to give it. Please post before and after shots for us to enjoy. As far as the seats go I just don't know. My seats were beyond cleaning. We had to replace the vinal wood and foam.

how far gone is the paint? if its not bad a product called formula 5 clean and galze works awsome! I wish I would have done before and after of my spectra! If the paint is bad you have to either wet sand or rubbing compound. And then seal it with meguirs's flagship polish. For the seats a good multi cleaner like spray nine marine cleaner! then a leather vinyl conditioner and sealer! thanks

if you are going to machine buff then try "3m fiberglass restore and wax" works real good

try clorox and water for the mildew
