I'm now spinning my Promax to 6500, which is the top recommended rpm for this motor. I still have full water pressure, so I have the ability to raise the jack plate, which will raise my rpms even higher. Time for me to try some props.
Anyone have a stock 'new in box' quality 24" Chopper II for sale? Am willing to try an ET also, same pitch.

Are you running a 23 pitch still? That 23 is too low of pitch for that set-up (that prop is a good overall cruising set-up for a 4-5 people and an afternoon of skiing). Seams that your set-up could eaily swing a 25 pitch with the motor low, or even a 27 pitch with the jack way up and light boat load (1-2 people) with no problem. Have you ever tried a Merc Revolution 4 (ss 4-blade)?... I used one on my boat and it worked very well, especially when I had the jack way up...not quite as fast top end as the 3-blade 25 pitch (1 mph slower on GPS), but it was faster at every other RPM range...My crusing speed came up by 4 MPH at the same 3500 rpm range...something to think about. Jim

P.S. I also have a 26 pitch hydromotive stainless "Turbo" or "Turbo II" (I forget which one) for sale..$225. I used it on my Hydrostream Vegas XT once (for a 2 hour family cruise)...works good deep (low motor height)...but will cavitate at raised heights... The prop is like "new" complete with the thrust washer, I just never used it and sold the boat shortly after. I used my 30 chopper all the time and the wife stayed home!!!

How about sending your Tempest out for a little pick me up? I know Rich Boger could add cup and pitch to it. He says he can change it +/- 300 r's. Just something to think about. The Janaky's at DAH can do similar. 262-534-4440, they are great to talk with.

Yep, still running the 23" Tempest. It was put on the boat for it's great skiing ability. I don't want to run the jack plate up high enough to cause the water pressure to drop or compromise my pulling ability so 2.5" below the pad is good enough. At 6500 rpm, I'm at the top of the rev range so it's almost the perfect pitch. I tried a 25" Tempest Plus last fall, and the Promax doesn't have the torque down low to swing it. I could only get 5600 rpms out of it, below the recommended range. This 2.5 liter 225 is more of an rpm motor compared to the torquey 3.0 225.
I'd like to try a 24" 4 blade large hub to see how that runs too. You could drive over here one of these Saturdays and bring your props, and we could play!

I've thought of that Checkmark, there's Randy at the PropShop too. But this prop has already been worked, it's thinned and brushed finished already so it probably shouldn't be worked anymore. I think it was dialed in for this setup for superior hole-shot, and with getting 72.5 on the GPS it still has decent top end too. I'd keep this prop as-is, and look for a top end prop to go along with it

I can attest to the Janaky's, they are in S.E. Wisconsin, they do great work...
