was reading that rot or water absorbsion of hydrostream and other cored hulls is a common problem. we have cored hulls and chasing a problem like that scares the hell out of me. have heard about you guys fixing floors transoms and even stringers . what about hulls ?anyone ever see the balsa core in a checkmate rot ?

I believe checkmate went to a cored hull in the late 70's. I know my 75 trimate does not have a core. Just think fiberglass. I have not heard of this as being a real big problem with the mates.

My late 60s 'mate has a cored hull, not sure when they implemented it or not but pretty sure almost all of the mates are cored.

I think they switched to "Balsa" cores in the mid 70's. I think they were plywood or other materials before.

But I'm not 100% on that. Kip can probably tell us the definitive answer. http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
