I'm just a couple of hours away from leaving work in Vermont to pick up Bill's old Diplomat in Green Bay. I have maps, a truck, CD's and about 6 litres of coke. Yup, I'm all set http://www.checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/thumb.gif. See ya Saturday Morning Rick. I'll call the shop from the hotel before I come up. See you guys in a couple of days as a boat owner http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif.

Good Luck Matt! Been there, done that. I've driven from Michigan to NY twice to look at boats. Brought one home, the other was a rat and left it there. I had the displeasure of driving through NY NY, right in the middle of the city, to get my boat. What a nightmare. Not only are the NY city streets a disaster, but the drivers are the biggest idiots I've ever dealt with. And I've driven Southern California and Detroit!
Have fun! Say HI to Rick and the boyz for us while you're there.

Actually, I got home sunday but my computer at home is giving me problems. I had to wait until I got to work to set this up. The drive there and back was pretty decent. Very little traffic during the whole thing. Rick and Larry are really cool guys. The thunder and lightning kept me from taking the boat out for a test run, but other than that things went pretty smoothly. I'm still putting the facts and figures together from the whole trip, but if anyone is interested, I could post them here. Thanks for the support guys.

We'd be interested to hear in anything you went through. I like to hear any stories that deal with the boat. You didn't say to much about the boat yet. How is it. You have any new pictures for us yet? Good to have you back... http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

So here are the facts.

I left Greenfield at 8 a.m. Friday and got to Green Bay at 5 a.m. (EST) Saturday.
I traveled 1194 miles,
actually spent 19 hours driving,
went through 53.33 gallons of gas,
averaged 62.8 mph,
got 22.37 miles per gallon in an 86 Chevy Suburban with a 350 4 barrel. Not bad, eh?

Coming back;
I left Bay View around 4 pm Saturday and got to my house at 6 p.m. Sunday.
I traveled 1211 miles,
actually spent 22 hours driving,
went through 70 gallons of gas,
averaged 55.05 miles an hour,
got 17.3 miles per gallon in the same truck towing a 1900 pound trailer (Rick's estimated weight)

I spent around $40 on tolls and the average gas prices were around $1.54. All in all, a pretty cheap trip. I should note that I was trying to keep at 63 on the way out, and 55 on the way back. 65 and over opens the 4 barrel and economy suffers and 55 I figured would make it easier on the trailer. The last thing I wanted to do was blow a bearing on Easter Sunday! On a side note, I went through 6 liters of Coke, 3 packs of smokes, and 17 CDs. Thats it for the interesting stuff. I had a pretty good time. Sorry if I seemed kinda out of it when I got there Rick, but it was a long haul. Talk to you all later.

I used to pull the trailer upwards of 80mph, keep the bearing greased and you don't have to worry, they are new, just remember at those SLOW speeds, stay out of the way. 22mpg in a Suburrban, unheard of, but awesome! http://www.checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/thumb.gif

I had a few CDs I made myself and Halen was deffinitly on there. You'll probably kill me though, but one of my favorite tunes by them is a Hagar one, Poundcake. Now that I think about it, maybe you could help me out with something that's been bugging me for a while now. What was the name of the song Roth sang with them not so long ago? It was only on the radio for a little while out here, but I thought it rocked.

I'd be going through my own CD Mixes, which are mostly Eminem and stuff you people would think is junk http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

I gather the Roth tune you were talking about was one of the two new songs they recorded and released on the Greatest Hits package in 1996. So it would either be, Can't get this stuff no more or Me wise magic.

Did I mention the Roth era was the best era? http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
