Has anyone replaced the front seal behind the steering wheel on a hydraulic helm? I have a late model Sea Star helm and there is fluid coming out of the front seal. I ordered the seals from Sea Star and they said it was easy to do on there web site. I got three (only 1.50 each) just in case I mess it up. Thank you! Also how do you bleed the system after replacing the seal?

Thanks to Merc-Mate for shooting me an email on how to blead the system. http://checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/thumb.gif Now has anyone replaced the seal on the helm?

acutally it is pretty easy.. pop the center cover out of the wheel, then you'll see a nut.. take that out, and configure a puller to assist in pulling the wheel off.. (sometimes they pull off easy).. you'll then see the seal.. after replacing the seal..bleed the system..
Shop notebook: This maybe a temporary fix.. and may begin to leak in a couple of weeks.. if this should happen.. bite the bullet and buy a new helm assembly. Alot of times there is slop in the helm assembly.. and it will not seal..
