Was a special order by Main Marine in Wisconsin. The stripes in the hull were made to match the Promax stripes. The original owner said that Main Marine ordered this package to do all the boat shows, but only got to one boat show before he stole it away. He got the boat before it made it to the Chicago boat show, just had to have it right away http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
It's not the color scheme that I would have picked, I like the all red with white/black stripe style myself. I had a terrible time talking my self out of spending $32,000 on a new package, and then an even harder time finding a used bow-rider Pulsare. I found this jewel on the 'net, in fact the owner saw a post I had made on the Checkmate factory board. When he sent me pix, I hated the color scheme and didn't pursue it. A few months of hard searching only turned up closed-bow Pulsare, so I re-contacted the owner and had him send me more pix. The new pix he sent showed the boat in a much better light, and I was getting desperate, so I drove to Milwaukee from Michigan and bought it on the spot. He took GREAT care of it. Everyone I come across on the water thinks it's a new boat.

I would make sure there is some added support before going back another 10". I agree it would add a bunch more stress to the transom. It would be interesting to see how it would run set that far back.

I was attempting to edit the post with the picture in order to add the information I listed below. Obviously, my attempt failed. So I will have to give the information here instead.

'99 259, 454 magnum, Gil exhaust, Imco full hydraulic steering, MSD-6M ignition, Teague Flame arrester, adjustable fuel regulator, 24" Bravo 1 ( stock ), but looking to go with a 26" Bravo Labbed for next season, H.P. Bravo 1 drive. I have seen 74 M.P.H. speedo, 68 M.P.H. on G.P.S.

I just got rid of an "older" Checkmate that I thought was a beautiful boat. I got more compliments on that little thing everywhere I took it. I put a lot of miles on that trailer hauling the boat around to have the most fun possible

Z06
01-25-2003, 11:34 AM
I can bet that. When I see some of the older Mates, I love the way they look too. If you probably ask most people, they will probably mostly like the newer graphics but there is nothing wrong with the old ones... I agree, it was a beautiful boat! http://www.checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/thumb.gif

I do not know if Checkmate has done this on purpose, or just because they are a small company, but I like the face that they have not fallin prey the they jelly bean affect and kept many of their boats with hard lines. That is actually a herder, more expensive way to build mold and hulls which is probably why so many other companies have put eggs on the water. It is cheaper.

I'm running a 454 mag with 22 bravo 1 wot 65mph.
This spring I'm going to a couple of minor things to the motor to pep it alittle. My brother-in-law is a mercruiser tech. Rick, we decided to go over memorial weekend to the ozarks. So we will be heading to Chicago most likely over the fourth and going to milwaukee for the boat races in August. If some of you have never been to the lake of the ozark, it's a must go!!!! It is mardi gras on the water on the weekend and awesome boating during the week. There are ton's of cool bars and resturants to go to in boat. Party cove is like watching "Girls Gone Wild" in front of your face.

Bill
02-05-2003, 09:43 PM
gslinger, is that the 385hp motor you have and is that 65 on gps or speedo. I am putting 320 ponies in my 240 and was told I should expect to get 65 on gps out of her. What do you plan to do to the motor? Next winter, when my warranty is over, i plan on putting a pro charger on. Also, I am going with silent choice, so I am running the exhaust open, i should not have any restrictions.

gslinger
02-05-2003, 10:24 PM
Yes it is 385hp. I'm just doing little thing like K&n flame arrestor, carb spacer, stub stack, getting my prop labbed, putting vents on, running mobil 1. These were all suggestions from a tech who works for mercruiser performance. I'm looking to do too much to the motor since my brother bought a boat bigger than mine so I will probably be upsizing either the end of this summer or next.
70 is speedo and my speedo is off by about 5 so it will run about 65 early season and 61/62 late summer. 62 is gps. From the hand full of people that I have talked to at mercury I should gain about 5-6 mph. The problem with my boat not haveing vents is I'm not getting enough air to the motor, so when it gets warm up here I lose some performance. You will love the zt hull The ride is awesome and solid.

Bill
02-05-2003, 11:23 PM
I agree about the vents, I wonder how C-mate gets away without venting the bilge area. This is a dumb question, but I thought the 454 mag was EFI, am I wrong? The reason why I asked is because you mentioned the carb spacer.
Are you going to upsize to another C-mate?

gslinger

there is a vent at the rear, but there are 2 problems with this 1) the blower hose run to this vent and 2) the vent curls downward so you are not getting air in unless your driving backwards! I think that my top speed go down and handle the waves might be tough! I have talked to checkmate about it and the basically told the more air I can get down there the better(aka poor design on their behalf) I'm going to take a look at what Rick has to offer and if I don't think that it will work I will have some fabricated by friend of my brother in law. As far as what I will step into for my next boat not sure. I'm going to keep my options open. I really like the AT 32, my wife wants to take a look at a sonic. But Rick might give me a hell of a deal checkmate and that will be my next boat.

I just went on checkmate website and it looks like the new zt280 has the same deck as the zt260 that I looked at at Rick's place. The took the curve out and made the edges a little sharper to accomadate the vents. My boat doesn't have a windsheild either. I thought about a new hatch on, but the wife put a end to getting rid of her sunpad!

Sounds like a great candidate for a good old-fashioned high-rise tunnel ram...............

I just came back from Checkmate on Friday Morning ( I could have wrote a movie about the trip home) and we talked about the vent problem with Mike, Bill, and Kip.. It looks like it can still be done. The 2003 280 has almost the same deck as the new 260.. it will be a little harder to do the vents on the 1997.. but we'll look at it if you'd like, Drez feels it shouldn't be a problem. http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Thanks alot for the help. Since I do not have my pictures on the net I would be most grateful if you could load the attached two pictures to the server. I do have better pictures of the boat but they are not scanned. The pictures I am sending are from 5 years ago when I had just bought the Sportfire. They were my computer's wallpaper background for the winter!!

Just a brief description of the boat for the site: the boat and motor are built in 1988, the boat is black with green metalflake and white accent stripes, the motor is a 150HP XR4 with Laser II 24P propeller, the seats are white with mint green and black, the carpet is black, top speed is close to 65 MPH if you can keep the boat out of a chine walk. Fantastik boat for skiing and small lakes. However on lake Ontario in rough chop the boat just gets slammed!

Not sure if you have read some of my posts, but I will work on getting pictures of my Pulsare digitized. I have many pictures, some close up ( including deck fluff if you know what I mean ) and other action shots. My favorite is one of my boat almost completely out of the water in rough conditions at about 40 MPH. Really cool picture.

Thank for your help!

But what if it's it a thread with a good meaning? I get replies to the 3-4 pics that I have posted. There are other people who post dozens and dozens of pics. I'll listen though and won't do that... I still can't find the sympatico way. I need help bad... Have you checked your e-mail lately? I asked a question and havn't got a reply... I think I should start donating money to this place...

Z, what you have to understand is this...

Server Storage Space costs a lot of money...
Bandwidth costs a lot of money....
Picture Files are large files....

Now let me explain what you are doing when you load your picture on to Scream's server and then post it here.

You are uploading and storing files on to their server, which in turn costs them money. And then when you post a message here, you are essentially putting a html command in your post, that calls the Scream and fly server, and downloads that file from their server to our users computers when they access that thread. And that, costs them bandwidth and therefore more money.

So the question really should be; Why should Greg at Scream, pay to store and download files that are being posted on this board and not his?

And the answer is; He shouldn't be and won't be.

And this is also the main reason, why files that get loaded up on to our server, are only done by me. Because, I don't want people loading pictures on to our server, and then posting them all over the web at my expense.

If you want people to see your pictures and video and dont want to pay for a website and bandwith all you have to do is use your computer as a server to host your own website. But you will have to have your computer online all the time or people would not be able to see the website. You could post a link in here for your website and say when you see Iam online on the board the website is open,That way you would not have to have it on all the time,You just turn it on when you come on this board, They have a little program,That is free that makes your computer a server and you can turn it on and off when you want.Very easy to do.Dont cost anything. http://www.checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/thumb.gif

Whats this program. I also don't feel safe using my computer as a server...

Won't Be... But doesn't it cost you money when you post more pictures? I have tried finding a free website company that I could post the links to, but I have had no luck, Geocities didn't work... I understand all of that, I didn't need the whole 9 yards... I at least have a half a brain, most of the time...

The brain thing was actually for Chris... Now I can post pics without bothering Chris... I can now post the ones I want... I still won't post too many. It does cost more $ for pics right. I am not sure because you seem to have lots of them around the site... And before I post dozens of pics, I just want to make sure, or else I'll stick with 2-3...

Ok... You don't see all these strange boats up here in Canada. I am being honest here, I saw last year 2 Checkmates (Convincor, Pulsare) a few Baja, A Few Scarabs, and 1 Hydrostream (Venus, right beside my cottage). Thats all the hi performance boats that I saw. Other than that, nothing really, just fishing boats, pontoon boats, cruisers, etc. http://www.checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/jpshakehead.gif

It depends on your RPM's at Wide open throttle.Should be about 4800. Unless the engine is "built" for more. Certainly it doesn't hurt to try something else but I'll bet that 22 prop is best for that boat.

great boats, I'm new to this site, check out my webpage and just click on the
boat page at the top. Last winter I restored a '73 mx-15 that I purchased for 700 bucks and have had a great time using it this summer. Its a wild little boat, takes a beating in the rough water but when it is calm I can get 50 mph on GPS. I plan on changing the seats and doing some tweaking to the boat to get it to go faster and rider bettter. http://supergenius74.kicks-ass.net

Also you could pick up a bunch of speed by installing a jackplate and stainless steel prop, something with good bow lift.

Thanks, its been alot of fun, not sure if i like driving it more or working on it more. The boat is light and easy to handle, I like it that way but it does come at a price it gets tossed around alot. I'm going to do some experimenting tomarrow, its supposed to be nice out and my buddy wants to take his checkmate out (81 centurion w/305) so I took out my back seat completely and I'm moving the battery and gas tank foreward a bit to see how that affects it. I wouldn't mind just making the boat a 2 seater since its usually just me and my wife on it anyway an maybe this slight weight change will bring the nose down just enough to make it ride better. I think I want a jackplate but I've never had one or dealt with one. I'm going to continue tweaking the boat this winter, doing little things to make it faster. The outboard is a johnson so I don't there is much I can do, maybe I shoud look for an old blackmax 150.

Go for the jackplate, they are not scarey to run and will make the boat much more versital. You can try adding some negative trim wedges between the engine and transome, this will allow you to get more negative trim on the bow to improve your low speed ride. (you wont be able to throw as big a roost but its a price to pay for ride)

Thanks for posting this shot Chris.

Just a quick description of where and when.
This was taken on 9/21/2003, off of Long Island, New Yorks' south shore. For those of you who might not know, this is in the ocean. This was the first weekend after Hurricane Isabel. The marine forecast was for huge swells. As you can see there were no big swells, just rough enough to have fun and calm enough to go fast and be safe. The photographer is a friend of mine, who was riding in his brothers '88 251 Convincor. We were cruising at about 60 MPH. He ended up with a sore face after having the camera smash into his nose several times while bouncing over waves.

Welcome to the board Tommy.

Which pole are you referring too? The mini-tripod that comes standard with most outboard Checkmates?

And for what type of boat do you have?

I've also seen them advertised in magazines, like Overtons. Overtons is online, take a look there. They aren't cheap, but mine was all stainless steel. Go to www.overtons.com (http://www.overtons.com) and check out item number: 10866. That's the one I had. $169.99

Hey fellas.

If a photo is already loaded on to the web you can just post it by linking to it. If it isn't loaded up, then you have to send it over to me and I'll load it on to our servers. We already have a nomination thread open in the "Play to Win" forum where anyone can nominate either a photo of their own, or a photo of someone else's boat.

Hope that helps...

this is a cool part of this site , looking at peoples checkmates and appreciating what they have done to them , either just to keep them up , bring them back from neglect , or change their whole personality all together. with yours i can appreciate the effort , i have done a few for friends , if anyone asks i always say paint it , because you can't afford to pay someones labor to do it the hard way , sand ,sand sand buff and buff some more. its gotta be a labor of love , or a real good friend ...
