I have a line on a mint 300x (21 skater take-off...owner going to twin 2.5's)...it is a 2002 with about 75 hours on it. Does anyone know if the merc computers can be "read" for history (I heard they can be). How does the price sound???

Yes, the computer can be read for it's complete history. Any certified Merc dealer should be able to do it. $13k is a good starting price, but he'll probably have to take less as you can buy a brand new one with full warranty for a few thou more.

75 Hours on a Skater might just be 75 pretty hard hours too. Those motors are strong but like everything, if you push it to the limit it'll break. Seems like spending time on a Skater would be classified as hard hours in my book.
I'd get someone really good to check it out before I even considered it. http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I priced new 300x's back in the spring of 2002 and got consistant pricing of around $18,500 from several dealers in a 100-150 mile radius of Dubuque, IA. The best any of them would come down to is $17,900. I ended up buying a "new in the crate" 2000 300 Promax after a long time searching.

Craig...
#1. Whats the diff's between the 300x and a 300 pro-max becides max RPM range???
#2. Have you heard of any years to avoid if I go used or new left-overs (like your 2000)?
#3. What gear case are you running?

#1 The 300X has more horsepower. Many rumors out there that it's 330 hp.
#2 Doubtful that you will find a left over 2000 model. I have not heard of any major problems with either the 300 or 300X. I think the early models 1996, 1997 had a few bugs. The 300's are more reliable and maintenance free than the 2.5 280's but not as reliable as the 3.0 225's.
#3 I am running the sportmaster case with 1.75 gears. In my opinion the 1.62 case is geared a little to high for a Pulsare.

Thanks Craig...I found a fairly reliable person who says the 300X is basically a "hot program" in the ECU of the 300. It bumps up the rev limiter and HP output to 325+...Thanks for the gear case info...That would be my choice for all-around use also. Jim.
