You might want to think of finding something of the 4 cyl variety for the weight factor. Merc's are nice but I think they weigh 500+lb. You know how the water washes up with the tower and that's about 300lb. I had a 140 tower with some work done making 160-170 (reeds,porting & exhaust work) on my Predictor.

I have one of my 200 HP Mercs left over. Freshened up 2-years ago....about 80 hours. Early '90's carbed, oil injection removed. This is one of the pair that was on my Convincor. Bob's nose cone (RH drive)....Light weight 2.5 Cowl but has 25" mid. Sold the other (LH) for $3750.00 about a month ago.
Runs strong....Trim pump and elctric fuel pump included.

illMATTic;
My 03 175 has an advertised dry wieght of 425lbs. I think something along those lines would be too heavy. I was just looking at a 99 225 promax and it weighs 375 dry. Still might be too heavy. Although you see some HydroStream Vipers with them hanging on the back. If you take the oil inj off and if you can use a 15" shaft you could shave off some pounds. Good luck!!

For the $3000.00 + you will spend on replacing the motor you have you might be able to upgrade your powerhead and carbs for less. All the linkages and electronics will transfer over to any "TOWER OF POWER". If you have a good lower with power trim you might be better off working with that. You might even be able to find some salvage stuff and save a lot. Lots of those early 80's and back motors are sitting out back of shops just waiting for someone to give the parts a new life.

All the "TOWER OF POWER" external demensions are the same, even back to when it was introduced as a (I think) 75 HP. The real old motors did have a different top cover and a recoil pull cord,and a electric starter, but you would'nt have wanted to pull start it. The 140 and the 150 are the same except rated different so they would be acceptable on more boats under USCG regs. The 140 has electronic ignition and the older 150 have a mechanical distributor. Other than the ignition and carbs I don't think there are any other significant external differances between your 115.

There is a difference in center sections.
2 different exhaust shapes.
split is in 77/78
I have a 78 115 that will not start. I bought it from a friend of a friend for $100.00
turns over and gets fuel but no spark.
also no tilt or trim
I would like to find a 150 or 175 for my 75 trimate II

ILLMATIC, HUNT DOWN A 2.0 LITER MERC 150XR2. THEY ARE LIGHT, NARROW, EASILY SPIN TO 6000 RPM, AND RUN FOREVER. THE LAST YEAR THEY WERE BUILT WAS 1987 BUT MANY WERE SOLD AS LEFTOVERS THROUGH 1990. THE ARE ALSO RELATIVELY CHEAP.

Ok, I sent a couple of pics your way.
Gave $675. for the boat. looks like it will need a floor, and the transom is delamenating from the wood.(sounds hollow when you strike the transom.)

Sounds like you have transom rott. Not a hard project but it is a large project.
I had to replace the transom,stringer,floor and well everything else that was wood on mine.
