Anyone have or install a plexiglass mirror over their engine? I plan to do so, but I'm a little worried about the mounting. Glue, silicone and double sided tape has been recommended, but I don't need to be a guinea pig on this one.

Any Help???

Dave.....asked the guys in assembly about this they suggested just using the bolts on your hatch that attach the upholstery to the hatch itself to mount the plex mirror using washers to keep from cracking the plex......may have to use longer bolts but it should work, KC http://checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/thumb.gif

There really aren’t but two bolts in the area I wanted to put the mirror. I need some type of adhesion such as tape or glue. Your guys didn't mention used any of these in the past?

Dave,
Try using some of this Crome Paint from www.alsacorp.com (http://www.alsacorp.com) I have seen this used it looks great.

They said that's the way they installed it before........but the hatch's are alot different now. If nothing else you could add bolts in the area you need to!

I'm figuring I will have to bolt it up all the way around, but the center is still the issue. We are talking about a 36"X 50" piece of Plexiglas. The center will bow if I don’t add some sort of adhesive.

DAVE, GO TO A GLASS SHOP AND GET THE GLUE THEY USE.

Been there done that. The glass shops use glass not plexglass. One shop said to use a neutral based silicone to "glue it". I'm not looking to do this twice.

Hey Dave,

Keep us in the loop as to what you end up using. I asked this same question a while back but never really found what to use. I have a sportfire too so the hatch is a little odd shaped. Where did you get the mirror from??

I called a couple of glass and mirror shops, both said they could get it for me. It's not a stock item, but any glass shop can get it for you within a week. I think I'm going to put a small frame around it and screw it up then use the neutral based silicone they suggested to hold the middle up. I'll let you know if the plans change.

I used the rtv silicone and a frame to hold the mirror up. It came out awesome. Its drying now, I'll put a picture up next weekend. If you need any info I can list the steps exactly. I useds the Dana hydraulic lifts as well, it opens the hatch in 5 seconds. Very cool!!!!

The engine compartment looks sweet. Good luck with all of it. See you on the river in the spring.
