new guy long time check fan/owner

Hey ppl killer forum, didn't know this many people were into the mates. thought I was a loner till I found this place.
I have a 1987 13' playmate GT bought it in I think 90 or 91 with about 3hrs on it. I was 13 years old at the time.
Black deck and hull with a white stripe and red pinstripes, there is a hint of red glitter in the black. I bought it with the radar arch (since removed) and it had a 48spl johnson, no oil injection, no ptt.
used and abused heavily over the years on a lake in NJ and now the lil GT has been retired to My garage in central fl.
The floor is rotted, carpet,interior and guages shot. so I have decided to restore it.
A couple years ago I wetsanded and buffed the deck and hull and recently had some repairs made on some holes that were there and bothering me.
I sold the old johnson and purchased a 90 yamadog. with all rigging controls and guages.
I decapped it last week and that is about as far as I have gotten.
next step is to cut grind and rebuild.
I have some digital pics I have on kodak easyshare I'd like to post but am unsure how to.
(the computer thing is kinda new to me)
Maybe some of you fine folks could walk me through it???
anyway glad to be here and hope to make some friends while chatting.
I also had an 82 18' checkmate with a 200 merc, 24 pitch chopper, had to get rid when I bought the house. I know some of you understand.

I had the same feeling until I found this place too. I am presently getting my 73 Jetmate on the go that I bought for $200(cdn){with trailer}, bought an olds 455 for it for $260(cdn).... $460(cdn) ~ Thats like $5 bucks American http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif ~ and now it's time to do a minor rebuild on the 455 and put the jigsaw puzzle back together.

These guys are GREAT!!! You will love it here as I already do (I'm new here myself). There are alot of knowledgable and friendly people here. It's like a home away from home!

I'd like to welcome the new members as well, there are an amazing core of Checkmate owners who really put their pride and effort into making this web-site work. They got me going on my 82' Enchanter rebuild. I am 174 hours in (everything is logged in, documented, and photos to go with it), and with the exception of few times where I am wanted to fill up my boat with C4 and watch it explode, it has been a great learning experience. Watch out though, as soon as you get sucked in - your family and friends will hate you for it, it becomes your significant other. Just wait though, when it is finished, they will wait in line to go for a ride.

No bad probelems so far as de-capping it, I've never done it before and there is a bonding compound on the transom where the cap and hull meet. that was about the worst of it.
I had to chisel out as much as I could and then remove the rubrail and all the poprivets holding the boat together, it took about 8 hours non stop on just the rivets!
then I wedged wood at the bow seperating the overlap joint and I wedged them farther and farther back spreading the cap up from the hull and still had the transom intact.
I removed the bronze thru hull for the splashwell and started wedging a couple of fat screwdrivers under the joint until it POPPED apart.
What a freaking crazy job, and it's just the beginning!!!
