Well it’s winter and I am repowering the boat again. http://www.moorhuscomputers.com/final%20motor.jpg Last year we started with a stock 502 added Canfield AL heads, solid lifters and a 3.3 Whipple SC. EMI headers with silent choice and a 1050 Dominator on top. We just Dynoed it and at 6100RPM we made 780HP with 8Ibs of boost and a very mild cam.

This year I plan to use a Merlin block 4.5 bore X 4.25 stroke Callies Racemaster crank Oliver rods and Ross pistons. So the base is a 540ci. I plan to use most of the original top end with a new cam and stud girdles. It will also be running on 110-race fuel. Whipple said the blower might have trouble feeding this motor so we are planning to go up to 8.75 or 9 to 1 compression and run 12Ibs of boost

I’m trying to make 1000HP so any input is appreciated.

Scotty, I need more power!

Drool, slober, wipe off keyboard.
Very nice. Should rip. What has been done to the drive to handle that much HP.

The drive is a stock XR with a shower. As long as you don't pull holeshots and wait to hit WOT at 75mph+ the drive will hold up. I will have to rebuild it every other year or so, but there aren't many other options at 1000HP in a 26' mate.

That is one powerful 'mate. What speed are you going for with that kind of power? What cam profile are you running? How are you dealing with the reversion problems with silent choice exhaust and short risers? I have heard of guys getting away with short risers, I just don't know how it is done. I don't see the cross over lines for the hydraulic steering, is that a single ram hydraulic steering system? I think it is time for dual ram at the speeds you are running.
Sorry I can't offer any advise, it seems I only have questions..

This is the final attempt for 100+mph. I'm also going to 1.5 gears in an XR lower instead of the 1.35 and the sportmaster lower. If that and 200HP more doesn’t add 10mph I give up.

The old cam was rather mild for this engine, 596 lift 238 246 @ .050 114 lobe separation. New cam should be 681 lift 258 266 @ .050 114-116 separation. The separation has been the key to reversion. More separation will decrease the power output a little, but it should be possible.

I love to run strait exhaust and silent choice. The sound and performance difference blows everyone’s mind. If reversion is a problem, new headers will go on. If forced I will choose HP over silent choice right now. Don't tell my wife...

I'm always amazed how everyone studies the pictures, and yes it is single hydraulic. It has been like a rock at 90mph+ so I see no reason to add more weight and $$ just yet.

let us know how the 1.50 gears work out.
that should make a nice difference if you have a good variety of props to run should spin a 36 easy with 200 more hp.

ZT, if that motor runs as good as it looks, you'll be piloting a rocket ship! http://www.checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/bounce.gif

Jason-

Half of the info I have came from Harold. Since you guys seem to be the only ones with a mate running well over 100 it only seemed logical to call you. Many Thanks,

I just spoke to Dustin at whipple and adding another 3.3 whpple can be done. He said 1100+HP if I do it.

Chris-

Forget rockets, with 2 blowers it might as well be a warp drive. Now if I could only remember where I left that extra 5 grand.....

That's alot of lobe separation.. I see how you are avoiding the reversion problems. That profile would make for alot of cylinder pressure if not for your relatively low compression. I guess that is the benefits of supercharging.
You have obviously invested some major $$$ into this boat, I would like to see you add that extra piston for the steering. I am sure that it is steady with the one piston, but the duals put much less of a strain on the gimbal.

Good Luck with your goal of 100.

My two cents worth...

Get some long tube HEADERS on that thing...(CMI, Lightnings, etc.)...those performance manifolds are notorious for reversion and can lead to cracking exhaust valves....we don't even want to think about those consequences!!! Other than that, your on track to 100+...Jim.

P.S. I know someone looking for a 502 short block if your selling any of the "old" stuff...

Lighning headers will probably go on. We will test the options on the dyno and choose the best header.

I will probably hold on to the 502 for a backup this year, but thanks.

jrumon,

I know someone selling an HP500EFI long block. If interested let me know. The last time I talked to him, he wanted $6k for it.

i noticed that the height of the engine is huge..
is this not a problem to the standard space on the engine room of the ZT260?

(the cigarettes have the special design of the engine room, that's why i'm asking...)

ZT, Looking at what you are building and what you are going for, I say all the power to ya.
What you ahve is a sickness, and there is no cure http://www.checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/thumb.gif

I raised the hatch about 1" to "make it fit". Without a scoop its a sleeper, they figure it out when I go by them. http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Sickness dosen't even begin to describe it, almost everything takes a back seat to the boat...
It could be worse.

Hey ZT,
Are you normally on the Hudson? Like to see that thing run.You ever head up stream? I usually hang out across from the coxsackie boat launch. http://www.checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/thumb.gif

ZT260, are you going for 100mph for fun, I hope because like 175checkmate said its a sickness that we all have, can't wait to see ya buzz the island this summer, good luck with the motor! http://www.checkmate-boats.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Brian-

I hit 115mhp on big moose lake yesterday, she was a real handful at that speed. Unfortunately there was ice under me. I'm sure 100+ on the liquid variety will be even more fun.
BTW- You might as well install an I-beam across that enchanter transom, and upgrade to a 300X
Remember faster=better!!!

See ya in a few months.

Brian

HAHA, I could get the I-beam to do that , but..... NA.... I like the OMC, I have a few new things that will be done to her this winter, but I don't think I will touch your mate, But on the ice I'll see ya out there!!! http://www.checkmate-boats.com/6/ws/,s,8626072361/Graemlins/thumb.gif O yeah faster+faster+better=More better!!

See ya on the water or ice.......maybe
